Deputies and Los Angeles County Firefighters were called to the 1600 block of South Azusa Avenue around 9:40 p.m. March 13. The victim, only described as a female adult, was hospitalized where she was later pronounced dead, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Los Angeles County fire fighters were dispatched at 9:40 p.m. They were on scene six minutes later and transported the victim at 9:54 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County fire department. “After a preliminary investigation was conducted, it was determined the pedestrian death was not a homicide. The additional investigation will be conducted by LASD Traffic Services Detail,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau in a written statement. The owner of a warehouse at 125 Vineland Avenue arrived and found an open door. After deputies were called and a search began, a woman was found hiding outside who they believe was involved, according to Lt. David Petrocelli of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The woman was detained. During an interior search of the warehouse, a deputy saw one person fleeing and believed one other person was inside as well. Backup arrived to help contain the warehouse for a K9 search, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. The two outstanding suspects were found by the K9 and surrendered, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. The three suspects are facing commercial burglary charges, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. Deputies are sorting through a confusing patchwork of stories given by the male who suffered the gunshot and a mysterious female caller who allegedly was also injured by gunfire, according to Lt. David Petrocelli of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Los Angeles County Firefighters were dispatched to South Brea Canyon Road and Spanish Lane just before 6 a.m. February 14. Deputies had to repeatedly ask both the mysterious female caller and the wounded male how the injuries came to be. The female caller stopped answering questions and could not be located, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. The wounded male said he was shot by a suspect carrying a shotgun at Brea Canyon Road and Valley Boulevard. A description was given, but deputies are questioning the validity of the description as well as the location given. The wounded male was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. A nearby Ring camera reportedly recorded what sounded like gunfire in the area and are trying to pinpoint the location, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. Deputies found the victim, only described as a 45-year-old Hispanic man, laying on the sidewalk and suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso in the 100 block of North Azusa Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputies were called at 5 p.m. November 24. They were originally responding to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and a man armed with a handgun. During the investigation, a bullet was located near Azusa Avenue and Glenloch Avenue north of where the shooting took place. A discarded hooded sweatshirt was also located, but it is unclear if it is tied to the shooting. A suspect remains at-large. A helicopter is first searching by air to pick up any possible heat source left by the gunman who was apparently last seen fleeing through the wooded area west of Azusa Avenue, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department radio traffic. First responders arrived to Azusa Avenue and Gemini Street around 5:01 p.m. A suspect description is not publicly known, nor is the motive. The victim’s condition is not immediately known. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CITY OF INDUSTRY - A man wanted for reckless driving was taken into custody after recklessly fleeing deputies late Thursday night.
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Carlos Barrera, was booked on suspicion of DUI, felony evading and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, according to Sgt. Molina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The pursuit began around 11:23 p.m. in the area of Hambeldon Avenue and Valley Boulevard, Molina told SGV CityWatch. Barrera was reportedly weaving across all lanes and refused to stop, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. Barrera allegedly at first led deputies on an exceedingly slow pursuit, sometimes moving at 10 miles per hour. A deputy successfully used the PIT maneuver on Barrera, who then allegedly rammed the deputy’s patrol vehicle at Hurley Street and South Shipman Avenue, wounding him, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. “He suffered swelling and pain to his left knee,” Molina said of the injured deputy. When the crash occurred, the deputy wound up halfway outside his damaged patrol vehicle, Molina told SGV CityWatch. As the pursuit progressed, Barrera allegedly increased his speed to around 60 miles per hour while slithering through residential and business areas. The patrol vehicle allegedly struck by Barrera was still operational, despite spraying engine fluid on the windshield, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. After Barrera slowed down, deputies attempted two more PIT maneuvers, the third times the charm with the suspect’s vehicle becoming disabled at Temple Avenue and Greycliff. Barrera allegedly refused to surrender. Deputies fired pepper ball rounds to get Berrera to flee, Molina told SGV CityWatch. Barrera finally did surrender. The collision occurred as a driver was exiting the Chevron gas station, 221 S. Hacienda Blvd., around 7:51 p.m. September 23. The southbound motorcyclist collided with the front end of the vehicle, according to Lt. David Petrocelli of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The rider died at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. The motorcycle rider has yet to be identified publicly. Next of kin has not been notified. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The checkpoint is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at an undisclosed location. Funding for this checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - Detectives are investigating two robberies that occurred March 8 in which a group of men took smartphones from their victims at gunpoint.
In both robberies, at least one suspect was armed with a handgun. The first robbery occurred in La Puente in the 400 block of Mayland Avenue at 8:47 p.m. Possibly four to five males took a smartphone at gunpoint. The suspects fled in what was described as a dark colored vehicle. The smartphone was being tracked, but the suspects knew how to turn off the tracking feature, according to Lt. James Long of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. A second armed robbery occurred in Hacienda Heights at 9:17 p.m. The victim who was punched by at least one suspect, sought help at a nearby fire station, 2691 S. Turnbull Canyon Rd. One of the three suspects seen was armed. The suspects fled and a light-colored sedan, Long told SGV CityWatch. Long was not entirely sure if a cell phone has been taken in the second robbery, but a Sheriff’s crime broadcast stated that a smartphone had been stolen. It was not immediately clear if these two crimes were committed by the same group of men, Long told SGV CityWatch. A deputy on patrol witnessed a reckless driver drive through a red light at the intersection of Gale Avenue and Azusa Avenue eastbound. The deputy attempted to locate the driver to initiate a traffic stop and eventually found the suspect had crashed into a traffic light In the 18200 block of Gale Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The suspect attempted to flee the crash vehicle as the deputy arrived on scene. The suspect apparently was armed. The deputy open fire, but did not strike the suspect. No one was injured in this incident. The suspect was hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the crash, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. The suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene. INDUSTRY - A major crime incident is being investigated in the area of Gale Avenue and Fullerton Road after an incident led to deputy gunfire Tuesday night. The suspect sustained injuries considered not life-threatening during a previous incident and was taken to a nearby hospital, according to Sgt. Armando Martinez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The incident occurred in the 18200 block of Gale Avenue just after 7:30 p.m. February 16. It is not yet clear what led to the shooting. A traffic collision occurred minutes before the police shooting and is likely related to the shooting, Martinez told SGV CityWatch. A gun was reportedly recovered at the scene. A large contingent of the deputies from surrounding Sheriff’s stations are on scene assisting with maintaining the crime scene, as well as detectives from the Sheriff’s Operation Safe Streets bureau. |
