The container and chassis overturned around 11:30 a.m. The off ramp remains closed while the Sig Alert is active, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision was reported on Temple Avenue near Railroad Street at 7:12 a.m. One minor injury was reported, but it was unclear if the vehicle’s driver or a train passenger suffered minor injuries. No one was taken to a hospital, according to Inspector Scott Elliott of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The driver exited the vehicle before the train struck it, according to Sgt. Gutierrez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station.
Deputies worked on rerouting street traffic until the car could be moved far enough from the tracks for the train to continue to Los Angeles. The collision occurred near North Echelon Avenue and Pocono Street around 9:25 p.m. February 2. The victim, only described as a Hispanic man, was hospitalized and later declared dead, according to CHP officer Tony Polizzi. Polizzi did not have any indication the collision was a hit and run. Two motorcycle riders were being pursed for speed when they took off from the officer. The rider who crashed is down on the ground and is no longer being held at gunpoint, according to California Highway Patrol radio traffic. It is unclear if the second rider fled, or was stopped. Los Angeles County firefighters have been dispatched to not only the Fairway Drive off ramp, but the Nogales Drive off ramp as well. The second rider being pursued may have crashed as well, according to Officer Stephan Brandt of the CHP. No further information on the second rider is available. |
