Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor HACIENDA HEIGHTS - Two men escaped with a cash register at gunpoint Tuesday during a daytime robbery. The robbery occurred at 15944 Halliburton Rd. around 2 p.m. April 16. One of the suspects was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The suspects entered a white four-door sedan and fled east on Halliburton Road.
The suspects were only described as Hispanic men in their 20s. Both stood 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighed 150 pounds each and both have brown hair and brown eyes. Clothing descriptions were not available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor HACIENDA HEIGHTS - A person was declared dead near a trail Tuesday morning. Firefighters were called to Azusa Avenue and Colima Road at 11:05 a.m. Firefighters arrived at 11:10 a.m. and later confirmed a person dead on arrival, according to Brian Stevens of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Once at Azusa Avenue and Colima Road, firefighters were led in by workers who opened a gate to allow access, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic.
It is unclear how the person died, or how long the body may have been there before being discovered. A supervisor with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Park Bureau was unavailable to answer questions. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor HACIENDA HEIGHTS - A man and woman inside a wanted Chevy Malibu were detained after an abrupt end to a brief, high-speed chase Wednesday. The suspects were detained after abruptly stopping for deputies at northbound Stimson Avenue at Sigman Street. Medics have been called for both suspects after the driver crashed into a curb near the end of the chase, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. A deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station attempted to stop the Chevy Malibu at Three Palms and Hacienda Boulevard around 10:50 a.m. after discovering the license plate revealed the Malibu was wanted by law enforcement.
The driver refused to stop and evaded deputies by driving at high speed, sometimes at 70 miles per hour. The driver also ran a red light, deputies said. The driver and passenger ended the chase after striking a curb in the 1600 block of Stimson Avenue. It is unclear why the suspects were wanted by authorities. |
