The crash occurred in westbound lanes of the 210 at Madre Street just after 7 a.m. October 13. The big rig landed one the Gold Line tracks after possibly swerving across multiple lanes of the freeway and smashed through the divider, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Sig Alert affects the HOV, No. 1 and 2 westbound lanes until Noon, according to Officer Peter Nicholson of the California Highway Patrol Traffic management Center. The semi somehow veered from the slow lane and through the divider, the CHP reported. The big rig driver was able to walk away from the rig, which eventually ignited, the CHP said. The driver’s injuries are unclear. There are no Gold Line trains running between the Allen Station and Sierra Madre Villa Station. Bus bridges are moving Gold Line passengers between the mention stations, according to Los Angeles Metro officials. The semi collided with a pickup truck in the No. 3 lane of traffic around 6:32 p.m. The big rig overturned and has reportedly caught fire in the right lane, according to CHP Traffic Logs. Passersby are attempting to extricate the driver of the semi. An Urban Search and Rescue team is en route to assist, according to the Pasadena Fire Department. Pasadena Police are advising drivers to avoid the westbound 210 freeway for the next two to three hours. As many as five vehicles are involved in the collision, which was reported at 9:34 a.m. Two vehicle overturned in the collision. All westbound lanes have been shut down for an unknown duration during an investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officer Tony Polizzi of the CHP Traffic Management Center confirmed a body was in lanes of traffic. According to an earlier log on the CHP Incident Management Page, a driver reported seeing what they described as a male in all dark clothing climb over a fence on the Lake Avenue overpass. The male was dangling over the freeway. Subsequent logs reported multiple drivers striking the body in the No. 3 lane. A red semi pulling a trailer reportedly crashed into a motorcycle. The semi ran over the rider and bike. The rider is reportedly pinned under a rear axle, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash occurred around 9:38 p.m. A secondary driver in a grey Acura sedan may have also struck the rider. It is unclear which driver struck the rider first. No further information is available. Robert Michael Ybarra, 34, was found and detained by Alhambra Police until Pasadena officers arrived to take him into custody. Ybarra was then hospitalized and reportedly awaited surgery Sunday for injuries sustained in the collision, authorities said. Authorities did not elaborate on how Ybarra was found, but Pasadena Police reported witnesses to the violent Pasadena Crash spoke with Ybarra, still injured in his SUV, before he fled. Ybarra is accused of striking a black Honda sedan with his white SUV in the intersection of Colorado and Sierra Madre boulevards around 2 a.m. May 27. The crash sent the black Honda sedan over a center median and several hundred feet away from the point of impact, severing an irrigation line and causing water to spew int the air. The Honda’s driver, Abeme Minuta, a 24-year-old man from Pasadena, died at the scene. Booking information for Ybarra was not yet available. Officers will patrol areas where bicycle and pedestrian collisions with vehicles occur, looking for traffic violations made by all three groups, Pasadena Police said. Officers will look for drivers making illegal turns, failure to stop to signs and signals, failure to yield for pedestrians in cross walks and other violations. Police will look for pedestrians who cross the street illegally and fail to yield to drivers who have the right of way. Bicyclists who fail to follow the same rules motorists abide by will be cited, Pasadena Police said. “Bicycle and pedestrian fatalities are rising in California as more people use these non-motorized means of transportation. Locally, Pasadena Police Department has investigated 374 fatal and injury collisions involving pedestrians and bicyclists during the past three years,” Pasadena Police said in a written statement. The HOV, No. 1 and 2 lanes of the westbound 210 freeway are still closed to traffic. A power pole or overhead gantry supplying power to the Gold Line was knocked down in the crash, according to the California Highway Patrol. The collision occurred around 1:21 a.m. The lanes still closed will remain so for an unknown duration, the CHP said. A sedan was likely involved in the collision and possibly two other vehicles collided in the crash. At least one person was injured in the crash and the CHP may have spoken with the hospitalized driver to obtain a vehicle description for the investigation. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor PASADENA - A 47-year-old man from Rancho Cucamonga died after colliding with a concrete barrier and guardrail on the east 210 freeway at Rosemead Boulevard Friday.
The collision occurred at 7:48 p.m. The rider, Brian Anthony Brouwer, was going to exit the east 210 to travel north on Rosemead Boulevard when he crashed into the barrier and guardrail. Brouwer was ejected over the barrier and landed on the right shoulder, according to the California Highway Patrol. Brouwer was identified by Investigator Rudy Molano of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Brouwer’s 2014 Honda CBR 650F motorcycle slid and came to a rest. partially blocking the No. 1 lane and left shoulder of the northbound Rosemead Boulevard exit, the CHP said. Pasadena firefighters declared Brouwer dead at the scene at 8:03 p.m. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are factors in the crash. |
