The fire was reported around 9:49 a.m. near the southbound 57 freeway to 71 freeway interchange October 16. Firefighters announced forward progress on the Fire was stopped around 10:14 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The Canadian-manufactured Super Scoopers were called, but have since been cancelled. A two-hour Sig Alert was issued for the No. 2, 3, and 4 lanes of the south 57 north of Via Verde for firefighters to work, the California Highway Patrol said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A teen boy was taken into custody Thursday after deputies accused him of making prank calls about a man with a gun at San Dimas High School. The San Dimas Sheriff’s Station received multiple calls from a single source around 9:38 a.m. The caller claimed there was a man with a gun near the basketball courts. Deputies searched the high school out of an abundance of caution after every student was moved to inside nearby classrooms. Deputies searched and reported that no weapon was found and no person with a gun was seen near the high school, 800 W. Covina Blvd. The student was identified, located and taken into custody. Neighboring Lone Hill Middle School was also placed on lockdown. “The lockdowns at San Dimas and Lone Hill have been lifted. All students and staff are safe. Regular school activities are resuming,” according to Bonita Unified School District officials in a social media statement. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - Deputies announce Tuesday the arrests of three teen boys in connection with the swastika vandalisms and other crimes committed in the area. The teens were located in San Dimas Monday, April 8. Witness statements, physical evidence, surveillance video and statements from the teens themselves connected the suspects to the crimes, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. A 14-year-old from Long Beach, a 13-year-old from Covina and a 13-year-old from Hemet were identified. Their names are being withheld because they are juveniles, the Sheriff’s Department said.
An additional swastika was burned on the roadway in the 1200 block of Stratford Lane in San Dimas Sunday, April 7 -- roughly three days after similar vandalisms were discovered on the roadway at Valley Center Avenue and on synthetic lawn in the 1400 block of Greenhaven Street. The swastikas were burned using flammable aerosol cans and cigarette lighters, the Sheriff’s Department said. Three small brush fires were also set in the 800 block of West Covina Boulevard April 7 and a security camera was vandalized at the location, the Sheriff’s Department said. Detectives investigating the vandalism learned the suspects were seen in the area late at night during the time frame the crimes occurred. “No motive for these acts was yet discovered, but the investigation indicates the acts of hate, arson and vandalism were not directed at any particular person(s),” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. All three teens are housed in a juvenile detention facility. A search warrant was served April 8 to find additional evidence. The case against the teens will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Possible charges include arson, hate crimes and vandalism. The men were two of four suspects who fled a traffic stop where at least one deputy had weapons drawn on the 57 freeway at Arrow Highway, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station radio traffic. It is unclear what prompted the high-risk stop, although deputies believe the suspects are connected to a series of cell phone store robberies in the area. Deputes, aided by a helicopter, are setting a containment search. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - One victim died at the scene of a double shooting Sunday night.
Firefighters were dispatched to South Acacia Street south of Bonita Avenue at 6:20 p.m. One victim was transported to a trauma center, the second victim was declared dead at the scene, according to Dispatch Supervisor Bernard Peters of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Deputies believe the shooting may have stemmed from an incident at a nearby restaurant, according Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station radio Traffic. The victim transported received multiple gunshot wounds, according to firefighter radio traffic. The scene is eerily quiet where the shooting happened at an apartment complex along pitch-black Acacia Street. A large group of deputies were talking at-length with an irate man as he stood behind a black security fence at the complex. Patrons of nearby Chapparal Lanes are either unaware or unfazed by the shooting. It is unclear if a suspect has been apprehended. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A juvenile has been detained as deputies continue to investigate a threat of gun violence against San Dimas High School Thursday.
Detectives contacted and detained the juvenile around 6:30 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “The investigation is continuing and the LASD does not have evidence of any credible threat to the campus or students at this time. We will continue our diligence in the protection of our community and schools. Bonita Unified School District,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a written statement. Deputies began investigating the threat after it was reported around 7 p.m. November 7, according to Lt. Ashrafmia of the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station. A copy of the message shared with SGV CityWatch was sent via text message around 4:37 p.m. An unknown subject sent an undisclosed initial text to which someone responded “do I know you?” The unknown subject responded “no, but ima shoot up san dimas high tomorrow.” It is unclear if the message was shared over social media platforms. The lieutenant refused to divulge if the threat was made over other platforms, citing the ongoing investigation. Classes remained in session at San Dimas High School with extra deputies on campus, according to a message sent by the Bonita Unified School District. |
