Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - Authorities identified and arrested a suspect in the murder of a San Dimas man who was gunned down in his own garage.
Jerrid Joseph Powell, a 33-year-old Los Angeles man, was found driving in Beverly Hills early Thursday morning and was detained during a traffic stop. Sheriff’s detectives arrested Powell on suspicion of robbery and murder, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna. Powell allegedly took as-of-yet unidentified property from 42-year-old Nicholas Simbolon before shooting him dead. A relative found Simbolon and called first responders, Luna said during a 2 p.m. press conference. Simbolon is survived by his wife and two young sons. “It appears the robbery and senseless murder are an isolated incident and that there is no evidence to indicate that the suspect acted in concert with others,” Luna said, adding that as of now there is no relation between Simbolon and the suspect. Detectives reviewed security video and allege Simbolon was followed home by the suspect from an electric vehicle charging station in the 200 block of South Citrus Street in West Covina. After identifying the suspect vehicle, it was entered into a database as an armed and dangerous vehicle, Luna said. A Flock Camera system in Beverly Hills located the vehicle, Luna said. Powell was stopped at Santa Monica Boulevard and North Rexford Drive. “During a search of the vehicle, a firearm was found,” Luna said, adding that detectives believe its is the gun used in the robbery murder. A forensic examination has yet to be scheduled on the gun. The case is expected to be filed with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office Monday, December 4. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - The suspect accused of shooting a weapon in a San Dimas neighborhood Sunday evening is scheduled for an April 19 court appearance.
Deputies were originally called to a home in the 300 block of Third Street regarding gunfire around 6 p.m. April 16. Kyle Edward Mueller, 24, surrendered after initially refusing to comply with commands from deputies to give up peacefully. Deputies were able to maintain periodic phone contact with Mueller. During the early part of the barricade, he frequently screamed and yelled at deputies from the safety of his home. After more than four hours, he emerged and was detained. Why Mueller allegedly fired the weapon is under investigation, according to Sgt. Saenz of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. A family member was inside the home with Mueller, but left before deputies arrived, Saenz told SGV CityWatch. Onlookers near the crime scene said Mueller’s mother was the one in the home. No one was wounded, Saenz told SGV CityWatch. Mueller was booked April 17 at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Mueller was booked on suspicion of discharging a weapon in a negligent manner and criminal threats, Saenz told SGV CityWatch. Mueller is also being held due to an unspecified case out of San Bernardino County. He is being held in lieu of $135,000 bail as he awaits an appearance in the Pomona courthouse, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - The case against the man accused of gunning down his older brother and also shooting at the unoccupied car of another brother in San Dimas was officially filed October 13.
Joseph James Dambra, 62, faces one count of murder and one count of shooting at an unoccupied vehicle. He is being held in lieu of $2.07 million bail, according to a criminal complaint provided to SGV CityWatch. Dambra’s arraignment has been continued to November 18, according to Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Dambra is accused of “willful, deliberate and premeditated murder” in the death of 68-year-old Richard Dambra October 6, according to the criminal complaint. The shooting took place inside a family member’s home in the 200 block of South Valley Center Avenue. Family turmoil is believed to be the genesis behind the violence, according to Lt. Brandon Dean of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau in a previous press conference. Other family members were inside the home when the shooting occurred. Richard Dambra is a resident of Florida and was here visiting his mother, Dean said. Within minutes of the first shooting, Dambra wound up in the 500 block of East Allen Avenue and unloaded his handgun a second time, eventually damaging the unoccupied vehicle of his other brother. It is believed Dambra intended to fatally shoot his other brother as well, Dean said. Dambra fled on a 2016 Ducati motorcycle and investigators believed he fled north on the 15 freeway from the 210 freeway. Dambra, 62, surrendered himself in to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies in Victorville October 9. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau was notified and Dambra was eventually arrested by San Dimas Station deputies, according to Sgt. Polanco of the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - The upland man accused of stabbing to death a Glendora woman and her dog near a San Dimas park is scheduled to appear in court July 22 after having his arraignment delayed.
Ricardo Saldivar, 23, was previously charged in the March 25 attack and faces one count of murder, animal cruelty, robbery, attempted murder and criminal threats, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records. Jeanne Edgar, a 66-year-old Glendora woman, was brutally murdered March 25 while trying to rescue her dog who was being stabbed to death by a man who mere moments earlier was attempting to attack another victim in the 1400 block of Renwick Road. The suspect initially went after a man near the restrooms at Lone Hill Park. Saldivar had a knife in hand and ran after the man who fled back to his vehicle for safety, according to Sheriff’s homicide investigators. After chasing the man around his vehicle, the suspect focused his attention on a woman dog-walking in the neighborhood. That woman, identified as Edgar, attempted to save her dog whom the suspect began stabbing after pulling the pet away from her. Saldivar then allegedly began stabbing the woman. “Our original victim saw what was happening. He grabbed a rock, threw the rock and struck our suspect in the head, rendering him unconscious and our suspect was taken into custody,” according to Lt. Derrick Alfred of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. Both Edgar and her dog died at the scene. A motive remains unclear. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS – A vigil is planned this Sunday for the Glendora woman slain during a random knife attack in a residential area March 25.
The candlelight vigil for Jeanne Ann Edgar, 66, is scheduled for Sunday, April 4 at 6:45 p.m. at Lone Hill Park, 500 N. Shellman Ave. The community is invited to pay respects to Edgar and her family, according to the City of San Dimas. Also killed was Edgar’s dog, Sashi. In a written statement, San Dimas officials wanted to emphasize that murder suspect Ricardo Saldivar is not being listed as a transient. “There have been multiple social media postings, including some from local news outlets, identifying the stabbing suspect as being homeless. This is not the case,” according to the written statement. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide investigators listed Saldivar as an Upland resident. Saldivar apparently drove to Lone Hill Park. Witnesses said a black older model four-door Toyota Corolla was parked on Shellman Avenue and was searched by deputies after the accused murderer was detained. San Dimas officials reiterated that cities across the region have seen a rise in violent crimes and property crimes due to decriminalization. The passage of AB109, which forces local agencies to supervisor people convicted of certain crimes after their release from state prison has also strained resources. “The City is working internally on approaches to address resident concerns regarding homelessness and the nuisance impacts of commercial activity, such as local recycling centers. Cities, such as San Dimas, are seeing increased unsheltered individuals throughout the community,” San Dimas officials said in the written statement. “There are many stories and caused for homelessness and we must as a community do our part to assist those willing unsheltered individuals to become productive members of the community.” Saldivar was charged March 29 with one count each of murder, attempted murder, animal cruelty, robbery and criminal threats, according to public court information. THE FULL STORY: Suspect in Custody After Fatal San Dimas Stabbing A preliminary hearing was continued to May 11 at Pomona Superior Court.
