Possibly as many as four vehicles were involved in the crash that shut down all westbound lanes until just after 2:30 a.m. CHP officers were initially told a white Toyota Rav4 was involved in the crash and possibly fled the scene, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. It was not immediately clear if the Rav4 was ever found. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A driver crashed into a power pole early Sunday, causing severe damage to the pole and outages nearby. The crash occurred on Arrow Highway between Walnut Avenue and San Dimas Canyon Road just after 5 a.m. October 27. Deputies are redirecting traffic. Live wires fell across traffic lanes and briefly ignited grass on a center median across Arrow Highway, according to Sgt. Michael McGrattan of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The 23-year-old driver was reportedly uninjured, but she was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution, McGrattan said.
Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department reported two people were hospitalized in the crash with one being taken to a trauma center for treatment. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, McGrattan said. Southern California Edison Reports as many as 60 customers are without power. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - A roughly three-acre brush fire was stopped after posing a threat to homes, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said Wednesday.
The fire was reported around 9:49 a.m. near the southbound 57 freeway to 71 freeway interchange October 16. Firefighters announced forward progress on the Fire was stopped around 10:14 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The Canadian-manufactured Super Scoopers were called, but have since been cancelled. A two-hour Sig Alert was issued for the No. 2, 3, and 4 lanes of the south 57 north of Via Verde for firefighters to work, the California Highway Patrol said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - Two people were hospitalized Thursday as a precaution after a collision sent a black car crashing onto a sidewalk and landing on its roof.
The collision between a black sedan and grey sedan occurred at Badillo Street and Valley Center Avenue around 8:13 p.m. July 8. A black sedan eastbound on Badillo Street collided with a sedan southbound on Valley Center Avenue, said Lt. Ed Mackenzie of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The two occupants of the grey sedan were treated at the scene. The two occupants of the black sedan complained of pain and were taken to a nearby hospital, Mackenzie said. No one was arrested or cited. The Lone Hill crossing between Cienega Avenue and Covina Boulevard is scheduled to be closed from Friday, April 26 at 8 p.m. through Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN DIMAS - All eastbound Lanes of the I-10 freeway from Via Verde Street to the 57 freeway will be closed for overhead sign removal early Tuesday. The closure, previously delayed due to rain, is scheduled to begin at 12 a.m. and finish by 5 a.m. March 5, according to Caltrans. Traffic will be detoured onto Via Verde Street. The collision occurred in westbound lanes of the I-10 freeway west of Kellogg Drive around 9:15 p.m. December 19, according to the CHP. The 29-year-old rider of a 2016 Yamaha was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead. He suffered blunt force trauma, the CHP said. The driver who hit the rider was uninjured, the CHP said. The collision occurred around 11:53 a.m. A deputy was responding to an emergency call in the 1100 block of Arrow Highway when, for unknown reasons, the Sheriff’s SUV and a vehicle collided, said Sgt. Matthew Bodell of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The dark blue, four-door car sustained major front-end damage. The Sheriff’s SUV jumped a sidewalk and came to a rest on a grassy area outside the Arco gas station, 1115 W. Arrow Hwy. No one in either vehicle required hospitalization, Bodell said. A report has yet to be completed. Bodell did not know if the civilian driver ran a red light, nor did he know the direction of travel for either vehicle. The checkpoint will be held in an undisclosed area of town starting at 6 p.m. and concluding at 2 a.m. Saturday, June 16. Deputies will look for signs of alcohol or drug impairment in drivers who are stopped. Statewide, in the last three years 3,374 DUI collisions occurred, resulting in 72 lives lost and 2,609 injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Funding for this checkpoint is provided to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. |
