Deputies have narrowed their search down to the area of Golden West Avenue and Agnes Avenue between Woodruff Avenue and Garibaldi Avenue, according to Sgt. James Long of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. A concerned resident alerted deputies to a burglary in progress in the 6000 block of Rowland Avenue around 5 p.m. One of the aspects fled towards Golden West through residential yards, Long said. It is unknown if the suspect is armed. The checkpoint, scheduled at an undisclosed location, will end Saturday at 2 a.m. Deputies will search for signs of alcohol or drug impairment, while checking motorists for proper licensing, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. “Studies of California drivers have shown that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems. A study of active drivers showed more tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14 percent) than did for alcohol (7.3 percent),” the Sheriff’s Temple Station said. “Of the drugs, marijuana was most prevalent, at 7.4 percent, slightly more than alcohol.” Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor TEMPLE CITY - Deputies are investigating four men who burglarized a home Saturday afternoon.
The burglary occurred in the 10600 block of Hallwood Drive around 2:10 p.m. The men fled without taking any property, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The four suspects, described to deputies as 20-year-old Black men, fled in an older-model silver sedan northbound on Pal Mal Avenue. No weapons were seen during the burglary. The suspect was discovered inside the victim’s white Chevy van on Rosemead Boulevard near Broadway Avenue some time after 9 p.m. July 13. The victim ordered the suspect to stop and chased the suspect away from the vehicle. A foot pursuit began south on Rosemead Boulevard, said Sgt. James Long of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. “The suspect turned, pulled a firearm and told him to stop chasing him,” Long said. The victim stopped chasing the suspect who fled out of sight. The suspect is a white man with brown hair, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 200 pounds, between 30 and 35 years old. He wore blue jeans,a blue Dodgers hat and a blue shirt with the “LA” logo, Long said. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor TEMPLE CITY - A pole fire spread to surrounding trees and brush and caused serious damage to three homes, while burning the exterior of two more homes Friday.
The fire burned in the 5200 block of Glickman Avenue. Three homes suffered interior burn damage, which extended into each structure’s attic. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies worked to evacuate residents from the affected structures. The fires were reported knocked down at 6:18 p.m., according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. The fire is burning in the 5000 block of Glickman Avenue. The five homes threatened by there fire are spread over a one-block radius, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Sheriff’s deputies are assisting in evacuating residents, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. Firefighters have requested a second-alarm for additional units. William Deng was last seen in the 6000 block of Oak Avenue in Temple City Monday. The boy is considered an at-risk missing person, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. Deng is 5 feet 10 inches tall and 140 pounds. Anyone with information on the teen’s whereabouts is urged to call the Sheriff’s Temple Station at 626-285-7171. The confrontation occurred inside an auto shop in the 4700 block of Miller Drive around 3:49 a.m. The business owner was confronted by one suspect armed with a crowbar and opened fire, according to Lt. Tom McNeil of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. Deputies arrived and arrested a getaway driver. A third suspect was found in the area of the shooting and also arrested, McNeil said. No one else was injured during the burglary. Deputies will accept your unwanted medications from Noon until 3 p.m. Residents are instructed to take their meds to the front of the station and deputies will handle the rest. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor TEMPLE CITY - An investigation continues after a suspicious package was found at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station Monday afternoon.
The package, which resembled a United States Postal Service box, was determined safe by the agency’s Arson/Explosives detail, which was summoned to the station, 8838 E. Las Tunas Dr., according to Lt. Marsha Williams of the Sheriff’s Temple Station. Williams declined to explain how the package was discovered, if it was delivered through the mail, or if it was left at the station and discovered by a citizen or deputy. “It looked like a package of items sent from a business, box that is normally sent through the U.S. mail,” Williams said. “The box is similar to those things received in the mail.” No evacuations of the station, nor the surrounding area were made, Williams said.
