The alleged drunk driver, a 30-year-old man, was hospitalized in stable condition. The two children were listed in critical condition, according to Sgt. Hernandez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The crash was dispatched just after 1 a.m. May 8 at Valley Boulevard and North Grand Avenue. The impact forced one or both vehicles up onto a sidewalk outside of a nearby Applebee’s. The two others accompanying the children were last described as being in stable condition, Hernandez told SGV CityWatch. The collision also sheared a fire hydrant. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - Three suspects accused of burglarizing railroad cars were chased along freeways and surface streets in the City of Industry area around 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
The suspects were removing televisions packed inside a rail car in the 18000 block of Railroad Street March 15. A responding Sheriff’s Department helicopter scared the men off, according to Sgt. Andre Kneubuhler of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The suspects fled in a truck and were chased north on the 605 freeway from the 60 freeway. The suspects exited the 605 onto Valley Boulevard where they tried to escape on foot, according to Sheriff’s Department radio traffic. The suspects were unable to flee with the televisions once they began escaping the rail car, Kneubuhler told SGV CityWatch. The suspects’ truck was abandoned behind Satin Topless, 13079 Valley Blvd. All three suspects were caught near where the truck was abandoned. Kneubuhler was hesitant to identify the suspects, only describing them as men between 30 and 37 years old. All three men will be facing burglary and receiving stolen property charges. One suspect will additionally be charged with felony evading, Kneubuhler told SGV CityWatch. The owner of a warehouse at 125 Vineland Avenue arrived and found an open door. After deputies were called and a search began, a woman was found hiding outside who they believe was involved, according to Lt. David Petrocelli of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The woman was detained. During an interior search of the warehouse, a deputy saw one person fleeing and believed one other person was inside as well. Backup arrived to help contain the warehouse for a K9 search, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. The two outstanding suspects were found by the K9 and surrendered, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. The three suspects are facing commercial burglary charges, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. Deputies are sorting through a confusing patchwork of stories given by the male who suffered the gunshot and a mysterious female caller who allegedly was also injured by gunfire, according to Lt. David Petrocelli of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Los Angeles County Firefighters were dispatched to South Brea Canyon Road and Spanish Lane just before 6 a.m. February 14. Deputies had to repeatedly ask both the mysterious female caller and the wounded male how the injuries came to be. The female caller stopped answering questions and could not be located, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. The wounded male said he was shot by a suspect carrying a shotgun at Brea Canyon Road and Valley Boulevard. A description was given, but deputies are questioning the validity of the description as well as the location given. The wounded male was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. A nearby Ring camera reportedly recorded what sounded like gunfire in the area and are trying to pinpoint the location, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. Deputies found the victim, only described as a 45-year-old Hispanic man, laying on the sidewalk and suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso in the 100 block of North Azusa Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputies were called at 5 p.m. November 24. They were originally responding to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon and a man armed with a handgun. During the investigation, a bullet was located near Azusa Avenue and Glenloch Avenue north of where the shooting took place. A discarded hooded sweatshirt was also located, but it is unclear if it is tied to the shooting. A suspect remains at-large. A helicopter is first searching by air to pick up any possible heat source left by the gunman who was apparently last seen fleeing through the wooded area west of Azusa Avenue, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department radio traffic. First responders arrived to Azusa Avenue and Gemini Street around 5:01 p.m. A suspect description is not publicly known, nor is the motive. The victim’s condition is not immediately known. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CITY OF INDUSTRY - A man wanted for reckless driving was taken into custody after recklessly fleeing deputies late Thursday night.
The driver, identified as 24-year-old Carlos Barrera, was booked on suspicion of DUI, felony evading and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, according to Sgt. Molina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The pursuit began around 11:23 p.m. in the area of Hambeldon Avenue and Valley Boulevard, Molina told SGV CityWatch. Barrera was reportedly weaving across all lanes and refused to stop, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. Barrera allegedly at first led deputies on an exceedingly slow pursuit, sometimes moving at 10 miles per hour. A deputy successfully used the PIT maneuver on Barrera, who then allegedly rammed the deputy’s patrol vehicle at Hurley Street and South Shipman Avenue, wounding him, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. “He suffered swelling and pain to his left knee,” Molina said of the injured deputy. When the crash occurred, the deputy wound up halfway outside his damaged patrol vehicle, Molina told SGV CityWatch. As the pursuit progressed, Barrera allegedly increased his speed to around 60 miles per hour while slithering through residential and business areas. The patrol vehicle allegedly struck by Barrera was still operational, despite spraying engine fluid on the windshield, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. After Barrera slowed down, deputies attempted two more PIT maneuvers, the third times the charm with the suspect’s vehicle becoming disabled at Temple Avenue and Greycliff. Barrera allegedly refused to surrender. Deputies fired pepper ball rounds to get Berrera to flee, Molina told SGV CityWatch. Barrera finally did surrender. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - Detectives are investigating two robberies that occurred March 8 in which a group of men took smartphones from their victims at gunpoint.
In both robberies, at least one suspect was armed with a handgun. The first robbery occurred in La Puente in the 400 block of Mayland Avenue at 8:47 p.m. Possibly four to five males took a smartphone at gunpoint. The suspects fled in what was described as a dark colored vehicle. The smartphone was being tracked, but the suspects knew how to turn off the tracking feature, according to Lt. James Long of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. A second armed robbery occurred in Hacienda Heights at 9:17 p.m. The victim who was punched by at least one suspect, sought help at a nearby fire station, 2691 S. Turnbull Canyon Rd. One of the three suspects seen was armed. The suspects fled and a light-colored sedan, Long told SGV CityWatch. Long was not entirely sure if a cell phone has been taken in the second robbery, but a Sheriff’s crime broadcast stated that a smartphone had been stolen. It was not immediately clear if these two crimes were committed by the same group of men, Long told SGV CityWatch. Deputies have just exited the flood control tunnels under Temple Avenue near Valley Boulevard after fresh, wet tracks left by the suspect disappeared. The suspect remains outstanding. Deputies originally tried to pull over the alleged DUI driver in the area of Temple Avenue and Baldwin Park Boulevard about one hour ago. The pursuit found its way to the northbound 605 freeway and eventually exited onto eastbound Live Oak Avenue where the driver evaded officers recklessly, driving on the wrong side of the road and running through stop signs through Baldwin Park. Deputies on the ground canceled their pursuit, allowing a helicopter to track the driver’s movements until he decided to flee from his SUV on foot and run into the San Gabriel River, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor INDUSTRY - The driver of a vehicle that crashed at the end of a short-lived pursuit was taken into custody late Monday night, a Sheriff’s sergeant said. The driver is accused of burglarizing a sushi restaurant in Walnut at 316 N. Lemon Ave. around 10:40 p.m., according to Sgt. Davis of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Walnut/Diamond Bar Station. The unidentified driver was one of multiple suspects who evaded the Industry station deputies pursuing them, according to Sgt. Itani of the Sheriff’s Industry Station.
The pursuit began at the 60 freeway at Crossroads Parkway, Itani told SGV CityWatch. The pursuit driver crashed in the area of East Temple Avenue and Puente Avenue in La Puente around 11:05 p.m. It was unclear to Davis what may have been taken in the burglary. The owner was not available at the time to determine if anything was taken. |
