Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - The driver of a sedan was freed by firefighters after slamming into and becoming trapped under a tractor trailer Friday.
Firefighters freed the driver after the sedan became trapped under the tractor trailer on the right shoulder of the eastbound 210 freeway at the Irwindale Avenue off ramp just before 5 a.m., the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Fire Department said. The semi and tractor trailer attached to it were both stationary on the right shoulder of the off ramp when the collision occurred, according to the CHP. A Sig Alert was briefly issued for 30 minutes, which affected the off ramp and No. 3 and 4 lanes at Irwindale Avenue. The roadway was clear as of 6:33 a.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - Firefighters are still determining the cause of a 30-acre brush fire that charred undeveloped land in the Santa Fe Dam Recreational Area Thursday night.
The fire, which ignited in the northern portion of the dam, threatened some facilities at the Miller Brewery as flames were licked by 10-mile-per-hour winds, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. As of 8 p.m., the fire was more than 51` percent contained. Firefighters provided structure protection to fight flames if they came close to the brewery. The Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension was briefly threatened by the fire. The California Highway Patrol, deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Parks Bureau will remain at the command post with Los Angeles County Firefighters throughout the night, according to the Irwindale Police Department. No injuries were reported. A number of homeless encampments pepper the recreational area, especially near the Santa Fe Dam Nature Center and in undeveloped areas near the 210 freeway. The cause is still under investigation. The mulch fire was reported to the California Highway Patrol just after 6:31 a.m. The CHP and Caltrans initially forced a hard closure of the on ramp for two hours, but have increased that closure until at least 12:45 p.m for cleanup, according to CHP traffic logs. |
