The motorcyclist was found on the extension of the San Gabriel River Trail bike path just east of City of Hope January 21. Officers attempted to stop the motorcyclist around 1:49 a.m., but he refused, according to the Irwindale Police Department. The pursuit reached speeds of 79 miles an hour. The rider, identified as 33-year-old El Monte man Sergio Alejandro Tejada Perez, bailed from the stolen motorcycle and tried to hide in some bushes near the 605 freeway and 210 freeway interchange. Perez was booked on suspicion of evading, possession of a stolen vehicle and drug paraphernalia charges. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - Surveillance video helped the police identify and arrest a Baldwin Park men accused of breaking in to a business and tunneling his way into a neighboring restaurant. Officers discovered an unlocked door to a business in the 15600 block of Arrow Highway December 17 while responding to a burglary alarm around 3:30 a.m. Once inside, officers found a long-gone suspect had tunneled through a wall into neighboring Marino’s Tacos, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Surveillance video gave officers a suspect description and a search started. A man matching the description was found in the 5100 block of Azusa Canyon Road. That man, Jose Zavala, 35, was taken into custody. As the investigation progressed detectives suspected Zavala was responsible for an additional burglary in the 15500 block of Arrow Highway, according to the Irwindale Police Department. On December 20, the case against Zavala was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and multiple burglary counts were filed against him, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Nearly 50 pounds of suspected methamphetamine was discovered in the suspect’s vehicle, according to the Irwindale Police Department. The traffic stop was conducted in the 100 block of West Sierra Madre Avenue in Azusa as part of an ongoing investigation, according to Sgt. Cornejo of the Irwindale Police Department. Jose Carrillo Galaviz, a 52-year-old Los Angeles man, was arrested on suspicion of various drug sales and drug transportation charges. He was transported to jail, booked, issued a citation and released due to zero bail provisions, according to the Irwindale Police Department. A suspicious person was seen outside Our Lady of Guadalupe Mission church, 16239 Arrow Hwy., last Wednesday. Officers were dispatched to the church and detained the suspect. Once inside, police determined the suspect shattered a stained glass window to get in, according to the Irwindale Police Department. “While inside, the suspect ransacked the inside of the historic mission,” according to the Irwindale Police Department in a written statement. Martin Garcia, 25, was booked on suspicion of vandalism and second-degree burglary. He has since had an arraignment at the West Covina Courthouse November 28. He is being held in the Men’s Central Jail ahead of a scheduled mental competency hearing in Hollywood Superior Court December 12, according to Los Angeles County booking records. A security guard at a business in the 13900 block of Live Oak Avenue reported a man lighting bushes on fire near a commercial business just before 8 p.m. November 13. The preliminary estimated value of the damage is $4,000, according to Sgt. Cornejo of the Irwindale Police Department. Angel Barraza, 34, was found after a search and the security guard identified Barraza as the man who set the fires, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Barraza was arrested at 8:18 p.m. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 ahead of a scheduled appearance in West Covina Superior Court Wednesday, November 15, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Law enforcement apparently pursued the driver from Bell Gardens to the Irwindale area where the driver crashed up an embankment near Santa Fe Dam and disabled the Kia Sportage the suspect was driving around 9:30 p.m. September 25. Earlier during the pursuit in Santa Fe Springs, the suspect stopped and barricaded inside the Kia Sportage for about 45 minutes before allegedly using the vehicle against a CHP cruiser to escape, according to KCAL 9 news. Traffic on the northbound 605 freeway near Arrow Highway was blocked while the suspect refused to exit. When the suspect did finally exit, a K9 helped to take the suspect down. At least two suspects were caught on surveillance video taking bikes from Irwindale Cycles, 15708 Arrow Hwy., around 1:12 a.m. The suspects entered after prying open a rear door, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Both suspects were masked up to hide their faces, but one criminal slipped up and got his face photographed after slipping away to the L Line train. A passenger thought the presence of new expensive bikes on the train suspicious and took a photo. Both suspects are described as Latino men standing 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 165 to 185 pounds and have dark hair. One suspect wore a gray raiders hat, gray polo shirt, dark jeans and black and white tennis shoes. The second suspect wore a plaid button-down shirt, gray pants and black tennis shoes. The incident occurred around 11:52 p.m. The suspect used a rock to shatter the door then fled the area, according to the Irwindale Police Department. The suspect is described as a Latino male with a light complexion, thin build and dark hair. He wore a black t-shirt, blue baseball hat with a logo, gray pants with a black belt and white shoes, possibly Nikes. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - Officers discovered freshly-stolen underground conduit reportedly taken from an industrial yard April 30. The theft took place at a utility yard operated by Henkels & McCoy, 13570 Live Oak Ln., Sunday morning. Arriving officers found a white SUV inside of the property, which is highly restricted. The vehicle failed to yield during an attempted traffic stop and it was driven a short distance before three occupants inside ran away, according to the Irwindale Police Department. The three suspects scaled a perimeter fence and ran onto lanes of the nearby 605 freeway. All three suspects were found and taken into custody. Amongst the stolen conduit were burglary tools likely used in the grand theft. Arrested was West Covina resident Eric Graham, 37, Jesus Soto, 33, and Abraham Saldivar, 39. The latter two are residents of El Monte. All three suspects were booked on suspicion of grand theft, possession of burglary tools and delay/resist a police officer in the course of duty charges. They also had a number of various outstanding warrants, according to the Irwindale Police Department. “This call happened during our shift overlap. John Shin, a 33-year-old Baldwin Park man, was found at his home in the 5000 block of Azusa Canyon Road just before 2:30 a.m. April 30. Detectives spoke with the resident and after questioning, arrested Shin as the hit and run suspect, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Shin was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run. Shin posted $50,000 bond and was released from custody. His vehicle, which was towed from his home, is being held as evidence, according to the Irwindale Police Department. A male pedestrian was found injured by a security guard conducting a perimeter check at a commercial complex in the 5000 block of Azusa Canyon Road Saturday, April 29, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Still images from security video show a 12:49 p.m. time stamp. The SUV was seen driving in the dirt area near a railroad spur line. Irwindale Police officers found the male pedestrian unresponsive and he appeared to be deceased. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics responded and officially pronounced him dead at the scene. “During the follow up investigation, detectives located surveillance footage from local businesses which captured a raised dark colored SUV running over the deceased subject and leaving the area at a high rate of speed,” according to the Irwindale Police Department in a written statement.
