El Monte man Enrique Leon, 43, was found behind the wheel of the stolen Ford Mustang in the 16300 block of Bellbrook Street. Officers originally were alerted to the LoJack signal in the area of Arrow Highway and Morada Street, in Irwindale, according to the Irwindale Police Department. The 1994 Ford Mustang was reported stolen out of the Los Angeles county Sheriff’s Department Temple Station area. “Further inspection revealed the ignition switch on the Mustang had been "punched" and there were no keys to the vehicle. Mr. Leon was also found to be in possession of suspected narcotics paraphernalia as well,” according to the Irwindale Police Department. The Ford Mustang was recovered at the scene to be released to the rightful owner, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Leon was released on a citation and had a scheduled appearance at the West Covina Courthouse October 6. Briana Quenga, a 53-year-old Garden Grove resident, was discovered to have a number of outstanding no-bail federal warrants for felony fraud from the FBI’s Fresno Office, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Quenga was found by Irwindale officers during an investigation in the 12700 block of Schabarum Avenue. The warrants were under an alias of hers: Briana Ballard Call, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Quenga was booked in the West Covina Police Jail and was transported by Irwindale detectives to Lebec in Kern County where she was transferred to FBI agents. The owner of All California Auto Wrecking, 867 Alpha St., was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of auto theft charges. The seven stolen vehicles being dismantled were towed from the business, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Arrested was Maria Sanchez Diaz, 54, of Monrovia. She was booked on suspicion of operating a chop shop. She posted $50,000 bail, according to Sgt. Rudy Gatto of the Irwindale Police Department. The owner also faces potential business license and code enforcement violations after an inspection by City of Irwindale code enforcement staff. The investigation was jointly conducted by Irwindale Police detectives, patrol officers and investigators from the Los Angeles County Taskforce for Regional Auto-Theft Prevention. Esteban Steven Valenciano, 27, is accused of operating his ride without a license and is on Post Release Community Supervision. He was also found with an undisclosed amount of cocaine, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Officers attempted to stop Valenciano for a traffic violation at Irwindale Avenue and Arrow Highway around 5:30 p.m. but he refused to yield. The chase tore its way into Baldwin Park when Valenciano lost control of his green Honda motorcycle and ate pavement at Badillo Street and Ramona Boulevard in Baldwin Park. Valenciano was hospitalized for injuries considered not life-threatening and was released pending charges of felony evading, possession of a controlled substance, a probation violation and driving without a motorcycle license, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - An alleged DUI driver and his alleged DUI passenger were arrested Friday morning after a crash sent their vehicle plunging into a rock quarry.
The driver, David Lorenzo Lopez, a 32 year old Downey resident, allegedly crashed through the front gate of Vulcan Materials, 16005 Foothill Blvd. When officers arrived, they found a sedan had crashed into a dirt berm and became stuck, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Lopez was arrested at 2:19 a.m. Friday and booked on suspicion of driving under the influence. Lopez’s 26-year-old passenger, Alexander Vincent Storace, a Glendora resident, was booked on suspicion for public intoxication. Both men were released on citations after sobering up, the Irwindale Police Department said. No injuries were reported. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION - Authorities announced a multi-location search warrant served Thursday led to a number of arrests related to illegal gambling. Seized during this operation at two units in an Irwindale business complex were 11 gaming tables and an undisclosed amount of money. Two people were arrested and more were detained, according to Sgt. Rudy Gatto of the Irwindale Police Department. “This was a cooperative investigation with the LA County Sheriff’s Department that resulted in search warrants at two different locations,” Gatto told SGV CityWatch. The Irwindale portion of the operation took place in the 15800 block of Edna Place around 6:11 p.m. August 4. The second location, a home, was targeted in county portion by Sheriff’s deputies. The Sheriff’s Department has yet to comment on their portion of the operation. Jose Carlos Estrada, 41, is accused of igniting a fire that burned up a stack of more than 200 plastic pallets, steel shelving material and a metal shipping container July 6. The property burned behind a closed business in the 5300 block of North Irwindale Avenue just before 1 a.m., according to the Irwindale Police Department. Surveillance video of the arson helped investigators identify the suspect who had previous run-ins with Irwindale officers. A patrol officer located Estrada driving a vehicle near Irwindale Avenue and Foothill Boulevard July 10 around 5:10 p.m. After a traffic stop, officers found items in Estrada’s vehicle tied to the arson. Also found was drug paraphernalia, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Firefighters saved the business, but the loss from burned property is estimated at nearly $10,000, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Estrada is being held at the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles in lieu of $50,000 bail. He was scheduled for an appearance in the West Covina courthouse July 12. Martis Diontrea Thomas, 43, allegedly fought and resisted officers who had to break open windows to the locked vehicle after he failed to respond to attempts to wake him. The officers feared Thomas may have been under the influence, or suffering from a medical condition, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Officers were called to the rock quarry in the 13500 block of Live Oak Avenue just after 6 a.m. July 5. The loaded and unregistered handgun was found concealed on Thomas, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Thomas was medically cleared to be booked on suspicion of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possessing a concealed firearm inside a vehicle and possessing an unregistered firearm. Thomas was released on $35,000 bond after being booked at the West Covina jail, according to Los Angeles County booking records. The crash occurred Saturday, June 18 at 3:18 a.m. in the 16000 block of East Arrow Highway near the Civic Commerce Center. The driver slammed into a corner of the building, destroying the windows and much of the office interior. “Officers contacted the driver of the pick-up truck at the scene, who miraculously was not injured in the collision. He was, however, found to be intoxicated and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI,” according to the Irwindale Police Department in a written statement. Nicholas Anthony Hernandez, 26, was booked and eventually released on citation pending a court date, according to the Irwindale Police Department. The office was red-tagged for inspection. Jeffrey Michael Divers, 44, and Charles Todd Lucas, 45, both from City of Industry, were arrested on suspicion of attempted grand theft, vehicle tampering and possession of burglary tools. An officer on patrol at the closed business complex saw one man standing suspiciously near a van belonging to one of the businesses at 4:30 a.m., according to the Irwindale Police Department. “As he [the officer] approached the van, a second gentleman suddenly popped up from the underside of the vehicle,” according to the Irwindale Police Department in a written statement. Officers confiscated a reciprocating saw, a floor jack and other hand and power tools, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Both suspects were booked at the West Covina jail and later released on citations due to LA counties “zero bail” policy, according to the Irwindale Police Department. |
