Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor POMONA - A 37-year-old felon was arrested Thursday after a search warrant helped Pomona detectives confiscate narcotics and weapons inside his home.
Matthew Moore, a Pomona man, is described as a Pomona gang member with a lengthy criminal history. Detectives with the Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force located three firearms and six ounces of narcotics, Pomona Police said. Moore was stopped in the 2100 block of Arroyo Avenue at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 21. Pomona’s MCTF was conducting surveillance and stopped Arroyo as he was driving. Information gathered during the traffic stop and additional information gleaned from an additional follow up, the MCTF obtained the search warrant for his home. Moore was booked on suspicion of possession for sales of a controlled substance and being a felon in possession of a firearm, pending DNA results. He was booked at the Pomona jail and was released Friday, April 13. Moore is expected to appear at the Pomona Courthouse Monday, April 16. The DUI checkpoint will begin at 9 p.m. Friday and end 3 a.m. Saturday, April 14. The DUI patrols will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and end at 3 a.m. Saturday. The checkpoint will take place in an area known statistically for a high rate of DUI collisions and arrests, Pomona Police said. Authorities state that well-publicized DUI checkpoints and patrols can reduce related collisions by as much as 20 percent. POMONA - Police announced the arrest of a man accused of committing 18 armed robberies across eight communities.
Jorge Armando Sanchez Frias, 33, was arrested April 5, four days after robbing a Pomona merchant in the 1100 block of West Second Street. Frias robbed the merchant at gunpoint. While surrendering cash, the merchant pulled a gun on Frias and an altercation ensued before Frias disarmed the merchant, fleeing with both guns, Pomona Police said. The merchant received minor injuries. Frias’ crime spree spanned across Pomona, as well as Azusa, Upland, Chino, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department’s Chino and Rancho Stations, Montclair, Walnut and Ontario from January 5 to April 1, Pomona Police said. Frias was found and arrested at Towne and Indian Hill avenues. The case against Frias was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office who filed 14 counts of second-degree robbery, one count of assault with a deadly weapon with a firearm and one count of grand theft firearm. Police were called to a residence in the 1700 block of West Ninth Street around 6:30 p.m. April 11. Officers arrived and found a man and woman both suffering from gunshot wounds, Pomona Police said in a written statement. Los Angeles County Firefighters arrived and pronounced both Rudy Ramos and Gloria Ramos deceased, Pomona Police said. A firearm was recovered next to the victims’ bodies. Pomona Police homicide detectives are investigating the shootings. Evidence suggests there are no outstanding suspects and there is no threat to the public. Kevin Mejia, a 21-year-old Pomona man, was arrested at his residence in the 1000 block of West Third Street around 4:14 p.m. after Pomona detectives obtained a search warrant for his home, Pomona Police said. Detectives with Pomona’s Investigative Services Division, with help from the San Gabriel Valley Crime Impact Task Force, carried out the warrant service and were able to link the firearm to Mejia through physical evidence inside the home, Pomona Police said. Mejia was found to have an outstanding no-bail parole warrant. Mejia was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition. |
