The suspect was on foot in eastbound lanes of the I-10 freeway near Dudley. The man was walking west in westbound lanes near the center divider at Fairplex Drive just after 9:50 p.m., according to CHP radio traffic.
The suspect fled across lanes and kept to the shoulder until he fled south along the freeway and disappeared into some brush. The suspect is a Hispanic man, around 5 feet 10 inches tall, has a grey hat, black sweater and blue pants. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A 19-year-old man will be arrested upon release from a hospital, accused of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs when he crashed head-on into a truck, causing the death of a child May 7, police said. Pomona man Franky Provencio is facing a murder charge, as well as possession of a controlled substance and violating his probation, Pomona Police said. The crash occurred around 4:24 p.m. Tuesday on White Avenue at McKinley Avenue when Provencio in his blue 2001 GMC Yukon drove over the median and slammed into a southbound truck, killing child Julian George and critically injuring driver Peter George of Upland. Julian was apparently not properly restrained, Pomona Police said.
Provencio was driving with a suspended license and was on probation for a 2018 DUI conviction, Pomona Police said. “Suspect Provencio was warned of the dangers of driving while intoxicated (Watson Advisement). Because of this advisement and Suspect Provencio’s actions, he is eligible for to be charged with murder,” Pomona Police said. Pomona Police’s case against Provencio was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and with the help of the DA’s DUI Training and Prosecution Section, the arrest warrant was obtained, Pomona Police said. Peter George had alcohol in his system, but the level of intoxication is not yet known, Pomona Police said. Provencio’s passenger was injured, but has since been treated and released from the hospital. The pedestrian was hit in the 900 block of East Holt Avenue just before 10 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The pedestrian, only described as a male adult, is hospitalized in critical condition, Pomona Police said.
Holt Avenue between South East End Avenue and North Reservoir Street will be closed down for the next two to three hours for a collision investigation, Pomona Police said. There is no description of the suspect vehicle. Any witnesses to the crash are urged to call Pomona Police at 909-622-1241. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A worker’s hand was trapped inside an onion dicing machine at a Pomona business. The person was trapped in the 2700 block of Towne Avenue. Firefighters freed the worker’s hand just before a medic team was to be flown in, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The incident was reported at 11:34 a.m. The exact degree of injury is not publicly known. Firefighters summoned a HERT team, which is comprised of a team of trauma surgeons flown in to scenes involving major injuries which require specific care.
The worker is being taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for further treatment. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - The suspicious death investigation launched after a woman was found dead in a senior living facility is now a homicide investigation, Pomona Police said. Coroner investigators determined the dead woman suffered injuries consistent with being physically assaulted and stabbed, Pomona Police said. Investigators identified the victim was identified as 58-year-old Pomona resident Ronny Wall.
Los Angeles County firefighters found the woman and her dog dead inside the unit at Serenity Villas, 158 E. Bonita Ave., just before 6 a.m. March 18. Firefighters received call of a fire sprinkler activation. A fire had been set inside the apartment, Pomona Police said. The woman called 9-1-1 dispatchers and said she was trapped inside an abandoned box car, according to Dispatch Supervisor Ed Pickett of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters located the woman just before 2 p.m. near Cesar Chavez Park at Barjud Avenue and Valley Boulevard. A Los Angeles County Fire Department squad and an ambulance have been requested
Firefighters were called around 12:35 a.m. Firefighters lost cellphone contact with the woman after her phone apparently went dead, Pickett said. “We have a half a mile worth of box cars, so we’re going door to door trying to find her,” Pickett said. A man and woman were both stabbed multiple times in their upper torsos in the 1400 block of East Mission Boulevard around 1:43 p.m. March 9. The victims are listed in serious condition, the Pomona Police Department said.
The suspect, only described as a man with multiple tattoos, fled on foot. Mission Boulevard from Reservoir Street to East End is blocked to traffic until further notice. Police were serving a search warrant at the home in the 2200 block of Heather Way. Pomona Police and the department’s Crisis Negotiation Team are working to have the suspect safely surrender, according to Pomona Police Public Information Officer Ally Mejia. The suspect has been barricaded for at least two hours. Nearby schools were previously on lockdown but the students have since been released, Mejia said. NBC4 and ABC7 are reporting the boy, possibly 15 years old, was shot near his mother while he rode his scooter in the 1300 block of West Third Street. The boy was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center where he later died. The incident was reported just after 7 p.m. An unknown suspect began firing from a vehicle that stopped along the street.
Firefighters were dispatched at 7:11 p.m. They arrived on scene at 7:20 p.m. and transported the victim, according to Cpt. Ron Haralson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “After experiencing such a decline in violence over the last several months, this is disheartening,” said Pomona Police Chief Michael Olivieri in a social media post. “Trust that we will devote a high level of resources to identify and arrest the suspect(s) responsible.
