Jose Luis Hernandez, 42, allegedly refused to comply with the commands of officers who responded to Hamilton Boulevard and Second Street to calls of gunfire. After officers detained two men matching suspect descriptions, Hernandez became uncooperative. “The suspect armed himself with a pocket knife and threw it at a group of Officers, striking one of our Officers. Officers made multiple attempts to de-escalate the situation but were unsuccessful. The suspect was struck with bean bag rounds and taken into custody,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Multiple shell casings were located along with four firearms, according to the Pomona Police Department. Hernandez is being held in lieu of $950,000 bail. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA – A Rancho Cucamonga man was arrested August 3, accused of dumping a substantial amount of crack cocaine out of the vehicle he drove after a fender bender, according to the Pomona Police Department.
Oscar Dimas, 26, was involved in a traffic collision at South Garey Avenue and Market Place. Officers were called to the scene at 10:18 p.m. Dimas was seen dumping items on the side of the road. Officers discovered 22 kilograms of cocaine were dumped, according to the Pomona Police Department. Dimas was charged with one count of transportation of a controlled substance. Dimas is being held without bail. He was also wanted out of San Bernardino County for possession of narcotics and possession of a controlled substance for sale, according to San Bernardino County Superior Court records. Dimas made scheduled appearances in the Pomona courthouse August 5 and August 8. He is next scheduled to appear September 6, according to Los Angeles Superior Court records. Dimas is being held in the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles. Martin Luna, 37, is accused of evading officers who tried to stop him for a traffic violation at White Avenue and Rancho Valley Drive around 12:46 a.m. Luna allegedly fled officers along the 60 and 57 freeways during the chase, according to Pomona Police Public Information officer Aly Mejia. The pursuit ended in the 1200 block of Magnolia Avenue in El Monte with Luna being arrested. He was additionally booked for outstanding warrants, Mejia told SGV CityWatch. Luna is being held without bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Los Angeles Municipal Court May 19. Josue Cervantes, 26, reportedly stole from the 7-Eleven, 1001 E. Grand Ave., previously. The employee recognized Cervantes as he approached around 3:30 a.m. and locked the door to keep him from entering, according to the Pomona Police Department. Cervantes was reportedly armed with a rifle and ordered the employee to let him in. Cervantes reportedly opened fire at the employee through the glass. The employee was hit, according to the Pomona Police Department. The employee was hospitalized and is expected to recover. During a follow-up investigation, detectives located a discarded rifle and other belongings nearby. An officer spotted a person who looked like Cervantes. The person was fleeing from the area, according to the Pomona Police Department. Cervantes was eventually found hiding in the rear yard of a residence and taken into custody. Cervantes was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery, criminal threats, assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an inhabited dwelling and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held in lieu of more than $3.1 million bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Superior Court April 22. Aurelio Camarillo, 44, and Luis Silva, 28, were found and arrested in the shooting death of 32-year-old Luis Alberto Garcia, who was found wounded after crashing his pickup truck, according to the Pomona Police Department. “Both Camarillo and Silva confessed their involvement in the murder to Detectives,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. Officers responded to Holt Boulevard and Erie Street around 5:22 p.m. March 20, 2021 to investigate the crash and found Garcia suffering a gunshot wound. He was hospitalized and later died, according to the Pomona Police Department. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed a murder charge against Camarillo, shooting at an occupied vehicle and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Silva was charged with being an accessory after the fact, according to the Pomona Police Department. The suspects reside in Pomona. Renall Sanford-Anderson, a 26-year-old Pomona resident, was arrested December 9. He was charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with murder in the shooting death of Tory Lawton. Lawton, 36, was found suffering multiple gunshot wounds in the area of Las Vegas Avenue and La Verne Avenue November 9, 2014. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics attempted to save him, but Lawton died at the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department. Detectives previously arrested Eastvale resident Kyle Henry Marende, 31, and Paul Wiley, 27, of Pomona. Marende and Wiley were both charged with murder, the Pomona Police Department said. Wiley, arrested September 1, 2018, is being held without bail in the Men’s Central jail in Los Angeles ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Superior Court January 10, 2022. Marende, arrested March 26, 2020, is being held in lieu of more than $3 million bail. Anderson is being held without bail. Both are housed in the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Superior Court January 13, 2022. Officers attempted to stop the driver for speeding and for having expired tags in the 2400 block of Chanselor Street around 12:40 p.m. When officers caught up to the vehicle, they recognized the occupants as local gang members, according to the Pomona Police Department. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Sergio “Silent” Pinon, fled from officers. He stopped briefly to let his passenger, Juan “Lazy” Rosales, out of the vehicle to flee on foot, according to the Pomona Police Department. Rosales was detained by police. “The suspect driver continued to evade Officers, but eventually abandoned his car and fled on foot as well. The suspect driver was found hiding within an apartment complex laundry room,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. A search of the vehicle Pinon drove revealed a loaded firearm which the suspect admitted to owning, Pomona Police said. Pinon, a San Bernardino man, was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition and felony evading police. Pinion is being held in lieu of $75,000 in the Pomona Police jail ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pomona Superior Court November 9. Jessica Grajeda, 35, was arrested after the Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit investigated the boy’s death and determined that he was subject to repeated abuse and that biological father George Luis Almaraz, 32, did nothing to stop her, Pomona Police said. Police responded to a home in the 600 block of Del Rosa Place just after Noon June 1 to investigate a call of “unknown trouble “ with someone needing CPR. The teen was found not breathing by LA County firefighters and officers, Pomona Police said. The teen later died at a hospital. “The investigation revealed that the victim had been assaulted by his step-mother immediately prior to needing medical assistance,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. Five other juveniles ranging in age from 1 to 13 years old were at the home and later placed into protective custody. Detectives do not believe they suffered physical abuse, Pomona Police said. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office filed one count of murder and multiple counts of child abuse against Grajeda. One count of felony child abuse was filed against Almaraz. Both remain in custody, Pomona Police said. Grajeda is being held in lieu of $2 million bail, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Jose Carlos Martinez-Perez, 31, was arrested after being found in Pomona March 10. He was booked on suspicion of murdering 38-year-old Vanessa Hedge, according to the Pomona Police Department. “Martinez-Perez is believed to be an acquaintance of the victim and the motive for the murder is believed to be a dispute over money,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. Martinez-Perez was found by the Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit, with assistance from the Pomona Police Special Investigations Unit and the U.S. Marshal Service. A murder charge was filed March 11 by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Dominique Rojas, 19, was charged by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office February 26. She is accused of shooting and wounding a 26-year-old West Covina woman, according to the Pomona Police Department. The shooting took place just before 9 a.m. at West Second Street and Curran Place. The victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. She was hospitalized and treated for her wounds, Pomona Police said. The motive remains unclear, Pomona Police said. |
