Khailyn Garcia Sanchez, 23, was struck in the area of Garey Avenue and Center Street January 1. First responders were called around 1:37 a.m., according to the Pomona Police Department. Sanchez was hospitalized and later died. She leaves behind a baby and her boyfriend. First responders arrived to the 1300 block of West Mission Boulevard around 9:22 p.m. and found the juvenile gunshot victim December 26. Firefighters were sent to the church, 177W. Monterey Ave., at 2:47 a.m. December 17 and were greeted by smoke and fire from within the 12,000-square-foot church. Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack, according to Cpt. Sheila Kelliher Berkoh of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. No civilians or firefighters were injured. Much of the fire was in the attic. As the firefight progressed, firefighters believed they were gaining an upper hand on extinguishing the flames, but the fire began growing. Additional resources were called after the fire expanded. 100 firefighters were called to battle the flames, as well as an urban search and rescue team, hazmat and heavy equipment, Berkoh told SGV CityWatch. The large open attic across the 12,000-square-foot structure likely aided in the fire is rapid spreading, Berkoh told SGV CityWatch. The church was scheduled to debut a play the night of December 17 and hold a Christmas toy giveaway, but now churchgoers are left to pick up the pieces and find a way to move forward. First responders were sent to a report of a person down in an alleyway behind the 700 block of Hawthorne Place just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 21. The victim was suffering from several stab wounds and he was declared dead at the scene, according to the Pomona Police Department. The traffic collision occurred at Towne Avenue and Philadelphia Street around 11:13 p.m. Friday, November 17. First responders located an unresponsive driver. The driver was treated at the scene by Los Angeles County firefighters and taken to a hospital where he later died, according to the Pomona Police Department. The other driver fled the scene on foot, and was not located, according to the Pomona Police Department. The Pomona Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating. The shooting was reported at East Kingsley Avenue and North San Antonio Avenue just after 5 p.m. Thursday, October 19. The victim was shot out near the street. He was hospitalized and is in stable condition, according to Sgt. Uribe of the Pomona Police Department. A possible suspect was seen running from the scene. It is unclear if that suspect fled in a vehicle, Uribe told SGV CityWatch. Uribe said he didn’t know if the shooting was gang-related. The shooting took place in the 1500 block of East First Street. First responders were sent to the location at 10:45 p.m. September 22. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics transported all six victims to a hospital. Three of the victims were treated and released. One victim was last listed in stable condition. The HOV, No. 1 & 2 lanes have just reopened after being shut down for several hours during the investigation. First responders were called around 6:13 a.m. to two solo collisions. A white vehicle and dark sedan were involved. One of the vehicles blocked the No. 4 lane, while the other blocked the No. 1 & 2 lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol. By 6:36 a.m., the CHP requested all lanes be closed. By 9:02 a.m., the No. 3 & 4 lanes were opened and the coroner arrived on scene. It is not yet publicly clear what caused the fatal crash. |
