The crash occurred at West Holt Avenue and North Dudley Street around 7:43 p.m. October 14. The 26-year-old driver, a female, was likely east on Holt Avenue and for unknown reasons veered across westbound lanes and crashed into a taco stand, according to the Pomona Police Department. The man killed in the crash died at the scene. Three people remain in critical condition. The 26-year-old suspect fled the scene, but returned more than one hour later and surrendered, according to the Pomona Police Department. A lieutenant at the Pomona Police Department declined to reveal the suspect’s name, despite that information being public until investigators are comfortable releasing the name. The suspect was booked at the Pomona jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and hit and run causing death or injury. One other person, only described as a female, was found wounded by gunfire. She suffered injuries described as minor. Investigators identified the suspect, Darnel Dwight Haley, a 62-year-old Montclair resident. A recent break-up is believed to be the motive behind the killing. Haley is known to drive a 2009 tan Kia Spectra, license plate number 8JNH311. He is still considered armed and dangerous. Felipe De Jesus Arias-Telles, a 36-year-old Santa Ana resident, was arrested May 12 in Anaheim. One count of murder was filed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, according to the Pomona Police Department. Hawthorne resident Joshua Ellis, 30, was found dead from apparent gunfire at Holt Avenue and Arbolada Way when officers were dispatched to investigate a reported shooting victim. Police were sent to the scene at 1 a.m. “Investigators from the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit responded to the scene to assume the investigation. Through an extensive investigation, Investigators identified Arias-Telles in connection to the murder of Joshua Ellis,” according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. The still-unidentified man was found wounded around 9:02 p.m. at West Commercial Street and North Thomas Street near the Pomona Regional Transit Center April 29. The man was taken to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead, according to the Pomona Police Department. The man was only described as being in his 30s. Gonzalo Avila, 40, was arrested March 26 by members of the Pomona Police Special Investigations Unit and Major Crimes Task Force. He was booked on suspicion of murder in the shooting of 29-year-old Anastasio Ezequiel Miranda from San Bernardino, according to the Pomona Police Department. Miranda was gunned down and left for dead in the south alley behind 420 E. Olive Ave. March 23. Officers were called to the scene around 1:15 p.m. Avila, identified as a local gang member, is also accused of trying to gun down two others. The two surviving victims were hospitalized. Avila was found in San Dimas with the assistance of the Fontana Police Department. An arrest warrant was written and Avila was taken into custody, the Pomona Police Department said. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm against Avila.
