Officers responded to the area of Sunset Avenue and Francisquito Avenue around 8:45 p.m. June 19. Arriving officers located spent shell casings in the neighborhood but no victims have been discovered, according to Lt. Tim Rodgers of the West Covina Police Department. No vehicles or structures were found struck by gunfire. There is no suspect, or vehicle description, Rodgers told SGV CityWatch. The shooting that occurred November 3, 2019 left Jaime Fernandez, 26, dead. He was gunned down in his vehicle in the 300 block of South Glendora Avenue. The shooting occurred around 12:50 a.m., according to the West Covina Police Department. There was more than one person inside the black four-door sedan detectives say was involved in the murder. One person in the black sedan allegedly flashed a gang sign associated with the Puente 13 Blackwood street gang during the confrontation with Fernandez, West Covina Police said. One suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his mid-30s. He wore a manicured or trimmed beard. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor WEST COVINA – A man caught on camera robbing a Circle K store July 4 almost two years ago is still being sought by West Covina Police detectives.
The man clad in a bandana and Raiders football shirt robbed the Circle K, 201 S. Azusa Ave., around 10:22 p.m. July 4, 2019. The suspect brandished a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded money from the cash register, according to the West Covina Police Department. In fear for his life, the clerk relinquished the money, West Covina Police said. After getting the money, the suspect placed the handgun back in his waistband and fled the store westbound on East Garvey Avenue South. The suspect is described as a white man, 25 to 30 years old, stands 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, has brown hair, brown eyes and was unshaven. In addition to the bandana and Raiders shirt, he wore black pants and brown shoes. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES – A 17-year-old driver led the California Highway Patrol on a pursuit and ultimately crashed, causing major injuries Thursday.
The teen had to be pulled from a 2007 Dodge Charger that caught fire after crashing on the westbound I-10 freeway at Walnut Grove Avenue at 12:17 a.m. He was taken to County/USC Medical Center, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP officers from the Baldwin Park Office attempted to stop the teen, accused of driving in excess of 100 mph on the west I-10 at West Covina Parkway. During the chase, the teen reportedly reached 125 miles per hour while using all traffic lanes, the California Highway Patrol said. After the teen crashed, CHP officers from the Baldwin Park and East Los Angeles stations found him slumped over and the vehicle ignited. The unconscious teen was pulled from the car. A City News Service story listed the driver, described as an adult male, as a fatality, but Officer Peter Nicholson of the CHP Traffic Management Center told SGV CityWatch that as of 5 a.m., the teen was in critical, but stable condition. Nicholson had no information indicating that the teen had died. Kerry Welsh was reportedly struck and killed by another driver at the intersection of South Hollenbeck Street and East Vine Avenue May 29. Welsh reportedly was on her way to pick up her younger sister who was at a birthday party. Other details of the crash, such as potential cause, status of the other driver and any possible occupants and whether any arrests have been made are not immediately known. Welsh reportedly finished her first year at Loyola Marymount University after earning a full academic scholarship, according to Linda Rabitoy, who identified herself as a friend of the Welsh family. Welsh played varsity soccer all four years at Glendora High School and earned a 4.6 grade point average. A gofundme was established to help the Welsh family. |
