The fire is holding at two-acres. The fire was nestled between the San Gabriel River Bikepath and the San Gabriel River. Firefighters were first dispatched at 5:22 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters announced that they have hose lines completely around the fire and forward progress has been stopped at 6:18 p.m. A water-dropping helicopter from the Los Angeles County Fire Department is using Encanto Park as a staging area, according to the City of Duarte. Firefighters were getting into contact with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority to provide assistance to those living in the riverbed. The death was reported to authorities at 10:50 p.m. March 2, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. It is not yet publicly clear how the victim, described by Homicide detectives as a Black female adult, died. At 10:45 p.m., firefighters were called to extinguish a 10-foot-square grass fire at the same location. Callers reported a possible body at or near the scene of the fire, according to a dispatch supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, who seemed unsure if firefighters on scene confirmed a body was found. A fatal crash occurred there February 20 after a westbound vehicle on Cypress jumped the curb at Azusa Canyon Road, broke through a chain link fence and plunged roughly 180 feet into the Olive Pit mine. The crash near East Cypress Street and North Azusa Canyon Road around 2:46 a.m. killed one person at the scene. One person was taken to a trauma center, according to Dispatch Supervisor Diaz of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The Irwindale Police Department had traffic redirected during a collision investigation. The closure was lifted at 6 a.m. The Irwindale Police Department has not yet returned a call for details on what may have led to a crash. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE – A man accused of stealing his girlfriend’s vehicle after assaulting her was arrested after evading Industry Station deputies into Irwindale Tuesday. The suspect, identified as Anthony Cole, alleged shoved and punched his girlfriend of several years and her juvenile daughter. He fled in the girlfriend’s vehicle, which was located on Baldwin Park Boulevard in the City of Industry area. Deputies attempted to stop the driver, according to Lt. David Petrocelli of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. A pursuit began at eastbound Live Oak Avenue at Arrow Highway in Irwindale. “As the suspect entered the intersection of Azusa Canyon Road and Los Angeles Street in the City of Irwindale the suspect collided with another driver turning left in the intersection,” Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. A chain reaction collision occurred. Three other vehicles were struck and the stolen vehicle rolled over. The suspect, identified by deputies as Cole extricated himself from the wreck and briefly fled on foot before being arrested, Petrocelli told SGV CityWatch. Los Angeles County Firefighters were dispatched at 1:36 p.m. The collision left a mess of twisted vehicles strewn across railroad tracks used by Metrolink and Union Pacific Railroad, necessitating train traffic to hault, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Cole submitted to a mandatory medical clearance prior to being booked, according to Sgt. Fitch of the Sheriff’s Industry Station. There were no serious injuries. Irwindale Police traffic investigators are handling the collision investigation, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Joscelyne Christine Flores, a Covina resident, is accused of causing the vehicle she drove to jump a couple of raised islands, forcing it to plow through the roll-up door of Royal Oaks Custom Paint and Body, 14314 Arrow Hwy., late Monday. The collision and ensuing fire caused extensive damage to not only the building, but several customers’ vehicles, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Flores was briefly hospitalized and later booked on suspicion of driving under the influence. Flores was issued a citation and released, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Minor Injuries Reported After Foothill Transit Bus Collides with Street Sweeper in Irwindale11/5/2021 Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE – Three people were hospitalized, including a bus passenger, after a Foothill Transit bus and a street sweeper collided Thursday afternoon.
The northbound Foothill Transit bus collided with the street sweeper, which was also northbound around 12:40 p.m. November 4. The bus was transporting only one passenger at the time, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics treated all three patients who were eventually taken to nearby hospitals. It appears the Foothill Transit bus rear-ended the street sweeper, according to photos from the Irwindale Police Department. “The cause of this traffic collision remains under investigation, however it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision,” according to the Irwindale Police Department in a written statement. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor IRWINDALE - An Irwindale Police officer stopped a suicidal woman from jumping over a ledge into a rock quarry October 22 after she became stuck during an initial attempt, police said.
Officers and Los Angeles County Firefighters responded to the quarry in the 13000 block of Los Angeles Street. An officer saw that the woman had already leapt into the quarry, but her fall was broken by some brush and she was lodged on the edge of a slope, according to the Irwindale Police Department. “When officers contacted the female, she made suicidal threats and attempted to crawl to the edge of the ledge to throw herself the rest of the way down the slope,” according to the Irwindale Police Department in a written statement. The quarry is several hundred feet deep. Irwindale Police Officer Shawn Cory shuffled up the quarry wall and physically detained the woman who attempted to roll off the ledge. The woman could have taken Cory with her, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Cory worked to calm the woman until firefighters rappelled down the quarry to extract both the woman and Cory. The woman was hospitalized and was given a psychological examination, according to the Irwindale Police Department. There were no injuries and no structures were threatened in the small fire that was dispatched to firefighters at 3:45 p.m. October 4. Firefighters on the ground were assisted by two helicopters, one of which performed water-dropping duties. The only major threat came from an intense storm cell, which produced lightning just one mile south of the fire, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Huntington Drive between Encanto Parkway and Irwindale Avenue was blocked for several hours while firefighters worked. Matthew Thomas Dyer, 46, was arrested and booker on suspicion of felony arson. Tips from the community also helped lead to Dyer’s arrest, according to the Irwindale Police Department. After the Jeep SUV Fire was extinguished Friday morning, officers learned the vehicle was stolen in Azusa September 24, according to the Irwindale Police Department. Dyer was released on a citation due to Los Angeles County’s “zero bail” policy, according to the Irwindale Police Department. The destroyed Jeep was towed away and returned to the owner. Crews on the ground and in the air kept the brush fire from growing larger. The fire also slowed after creeping up to the Miller Brewery property line. The fire was dispatched just before 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Arriving firefighters reported seeing smoke several miles away and immediately called for a full first-alarm brush fire, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Crews on the ground had structure protection measures in place to protect the brewery, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire appeared to burn in an area west of the Dam’s nature center, an area known for homeless encampments and frequent brush fires. Several engines remained on scene to conduct a fire watch over the course of the night and into the morning. The cause is under investigation. |
