Jessica Grajeda, 35, was arrested after the Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit investigated the boy’s death and determined that he was subject to repeated abuse and that biological father George Luis Almaraz, 32, did nothing to stop her, Pomona Police said. Police responded to a home in the 600 block of Del Rosa Place just after Noon June 1 to investigate a call of “unknown trouble “ with someone needing CPR. The teen was found not breathing by LA County firefighters and officers, Pomona Police said. The teen later died at a hospital. “The investigation revealed that the victim had been assaulted by his step-mother immediately prior to needing medical assistance,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. Five other juveniles ranging in age from 1 to 13 years old were at the home and later placed into protective custody. Detectives do not believe they suffered physical abuse, Pomona Police said. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office filed one count of murder and multiple counts of child abuse against Grajeda. One count of felony child abuse was filed against Almaraz. Both remain in custody, Pomona Police said. Grajeda is being held in lieu of $2 million bail, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Jerome Deandre, a 41-year-old Pomona man, was arrested by the Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit. Deandre was booked on suspicion of rape of an unconscious person, kidnapping with the intent to commit rape, oral copulation of an unconscious person and sexual penetration with a foreign object of an unconscious person, according to the Pomona Police Department. 34-year-old Shaday Star Olias was found dead Tuesday, January 12 behind 2001 S. Garey Ave. It is either not clear, or has yet to be revealed if Olias died at the scene. An exact cause of death has yet to be determined. “The Pomona Police Department is aware of a rumor circulating on social media stating a serial rapist is operating in Pomona. We would like to assure our community, we have no reason to believe there is a serial rapist in Pomona. Tuesday’s incident was an isolated incident,” according to the Pomona Police Department. Montclair man Javier Perez, 33, is accused of stabbing a 26-year-old Ontario man just before 3 a.m. Halloween night inside a home in the 900 block of East 6th Street. The victim suffered multiple stab wounds to his torso. He received life-saving surgery and is recovering, according to the Pomona Police Department.
Detectives with the Pomona Police Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, developed leads and identified Perez as a suspect November 4, Pomona Police said. Perez is known to the victim, Pomona Police said. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed the charge against Perez November 6. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA – A wanted man considered armed and dangerous was caught in a Pomona park October 20. The suspect, 29-year-old Ernie Castro of Highland, tussled with officers who ran after him when he decided to flee and detained him for suspicious activity. During the foot chase, Castro ditched what was later discovered to be a replica handgun and also possessed a dagger and machete, according to the Pomona Police Department. The Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Task Force was conducting gang suppression work around 11:40 p.m. in the 2900 block of Battram Street when they came upon Castro at Willie White Park, Pomona Police said.
“Officers attempted to stop a suspicious pedestrian who was later identified as Ernie Castro. During the contact, Castro made a quick movement to conceal his hand and then suddenly ran,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. Castro was booked on suspicion of resisting arrest, resisting arrest using force against officers, carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, public intoxication and additionally booked for a no-bail warrant and warrant for a weapons violation, Pomona Police said. Officers discovered the three wounded teens all fled to different locations after the shooting, which took place in the 1600 block of East Holt Avenue around 6:46 p.m. October 10. The teens were in the empty parking lot when a vehicle was driven up to them and the suspects open fire, according to Lt. Ryan Rodriguez of the Pomona Police Department. The male teens, who ranged in age from 14 to 16 years old, were hospitalized with injuries considered not life-threatening, Rodriguez told SGV CityWatch. Police found the 36-year-old man down, gravely wounded in the 3100 block of Pomona Boulevard September 11. Firefighter paramedics and officers aided the man, but he died from his wounds, according to the Pomona Police Department. Police were dispatched around 1:43 p.m. Police apparently do not have a suspect description or a motive. Jan Kumar Agarwala, a 54-year-old Pomona man, was investigated after officers were called to a domestic violence report in the 1600 block of Lawrence Place Sunday around 6:37 p.m. Agarwala is accused of pushing the mother of his children and throwing a drink at her, Pomona Police said. Since Agarwala was accused of domestic violence, police inquired of any weapons in the home. The law allows for the temporary removal of firearms in such cases, Pomona Police said. Police were informed of multiple weapons, including rifles, shotguns and handguns in the home. One weapon was discovered stolen, Pomona Police said. The weapons were seized. “Additionally, officers located 7 military smoke grenades, 2 suspected smoke grenades, 2 illumination flares, 2 pounds of a white powder substance, a roll of hobby fuse, an electric detonator, 2 containers of Hexamine tablets, and one pound of smokeless powder,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. Agarwala was booked at the Pomona jail. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed charges of possession of explosive, possession of ingredients to make a destructive device, receiving stolen property, criminal storage of a firearm and domestic battery. The scene unfolded inside a home on Brewster Drive near North Signal Drive just after 8 a.m. June 28. The suspect is known to both victims, according to Lt. Steve Congalton of the Pomona Police Department, but the lieutenant did not know the precise relation to the victims. Congalton believes someone from inside the home called police. Investigators remain on scene to determine what led to the assault, Congalton told SGV CityWatch. The surviving victim was hospitalized, but Congalton did not have a current condition for the victim. A motive is either unknown, or has yet to be publicly revealed. The suspect, Gerald Dominguez, a 52-year-old resident of Azusa, was taken into custody after fleeing into two homes, one of them occupied. A police officer helped convince Dominguez to surrender peacefully, according to the Pomona Police Department in a written statement. The stabbings occurred at the Pomona Transit Center, 100 W. Commercial St. Dominguez stabbed one rider who is sleeping and stabbed another in the arm, according to the Pomona Police Department. Dominguez, still armed with a knife, fled into an occupied home and encountered a woman in the 400 block of West Monterey. The suspect fled into another home in the 400 block of N. Rebecca St. where he remained for a few hours. “Officers and our Crisis Negotiation officers arrived and saw the suspect inside and armed with the knife. For almost 2 hours, Officer Megan Gonzalez attempted to de-escalate the situation and get the suspect to safely surrender,” Pomona Police said. Dominguez safe Lee surrendered after the arrival of the Pomona Police SWAT team.

POMONA - The body camera footage of an encounter between a Pomona Police officer and the shooting of a man armed with a sword was released Thursday.
The scene unfolded March 30, 2020 near Reservoir Street and Third Street around 7:15 p.m. Pomona Police Corporal Chad Jensen responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call and found a victim claiming to have been cut by a man with a sword. Jensen searched for and located a suspect, Pomona Police said.
The suspect ran into some nearby bushes to hide from Jensen. As the suspect emerged, Jensen drew his weapon. The suspect then armed himself with the sword and refused to comply with Jensen’s commands while walking towards the officer.
A police shooting occurred. The suspect died at the scene. The victim, who received a laceration to his head after being attacked by the suspect, was hospitalized and will make a full recovery, Pomona Police said. “The Pomona Police Department remains committed to accountability and transparency in use of force encounters and all situations,” Pomona Police said in a written statement. |
