The California Highway Patrol has issued a Sig Alert for an unknown duration, affecting the HOV and No. 1 and 2 lanes of traffic. The crash occurred around 5:40 a.m. May 1. Preliminary information suggests a Mercedes-Benz lost a tire, which the motorcyclist struck. A second vehicle struck the rider in the fast lane, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash was reported around 11:25 p.m. April 11. Additional closures include the northbound and southbound 57 freeway and 71 freeway trans roads to the westbound I-10 freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol. Valarie Sauers, 30, and Sonya Sifuentes, 35, were taken into custody by Pomona Police officers and California Highway Patrol officers working a gang suppression operation with the Pomona Police Major Crimes Task Force. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the driver, Sauers, in the 1400 block of South Garvey Avenue. Sauers stopped her vehicle at Franklin Avenue and Garvey, but drove away from approaching officers, according to the Pomona Police Department. A slow-speed pursuit ensued to Bolivar Street and Mayfair Avenue where Sifuentes, who was riding shotgun, escaped on foot. Sauers continued to drive from officers, the Pomona Police Department said. Officers ran after Sifuentes and took her into custody.
Sauers drove a short distance before stopping for officers who took her into custody. A vehicle search revealed a loaded handgun, the Pomona Police Department said. Sauers and Sifuentes were both booked on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and felony evading. The operation held on December 5 and December 12 resulted in 19 arrests for probation violations and felony or misdemeanor warrants. 14 parole/probation compliance checks were conducted. Drugs and drug paraphernalia were seized along with two handguns, the Pomona Police Department said. California State Parole, L.A. County Probation (SEO), L.A. Officers were called to the scene near the 57 freeway on ramp at 12:21 a.m. Monday, December 9. When they arrived, officers found a male down in lanes of traffic, according to the Pomona Police Department. What led to the collision is still unknown at this time. The California highway patrol was asked to block the Temple Avenue offramp from the southbound 57 freeway. Both directions of Temple Avenue were blocked during an investigation. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, Pomona Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - One person was taken to a nearby hospital, the victim of a reported vehicle-to-vehicle shooting on the eastbound I-10 freeway Friday. The victim wound up in the parking lot of a McDonald’s, 2145 Murchison Ave., after being involved in the shooting. Firefighters were called to the McDonald’s at 6:55 p.m. and transported one victim to an area trauma center, according to Dispatch Supervisor Miguel Ornellas of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A Sig Alert was issued for all eastbound lanes of the I-10 freeway at the 57 interchange, according to Officer Dion Conley of the California Highway Patrol.
The shooting apparently occurred on freeway lanes somewhere east of the 57 interchange. CHP officers are combing lanes to look for evidence. The Sig Alert may last until possibly 9:30 p.m. Descriptions of a suspect and suspect vehicle are not readily available. The crash in middle lanes was reported to officers at 4:27 a.m. The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:41 a.m. A Sig Alert was issued at 4:55 a.m., according to the CHP Traffic Management Center.

Officers from the Pomona Police Department, Azusa Police Department and California Highway Patrol conducted the undercover sting along the Holt Avenue Corridor. Undercover officers contacted suspected customers (aka “Johns”) and prostitutes. Uniformed officers arrested the suspects after sex acts were negotiated for money, Pomona Police said.

Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A man allegedly threatening to jump onto the westbound I-10 freeway was saved by firefighters on the northbound 57 freeway transition to the westbound I-10 Thursday. The man came down from being perched on the edge of the trans road right after firefighters arrived on scene. California Highway Patrol officers have the man detained, according to Inspector Brian Stevens of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched at 10:21 a.m. to the trans road and saw the man perched on the edge. They immediately requested a truck equipped with rescue air cushions in the event he jumped and requested all westbound lanes of the I-10 to be shut down. The man arrived to the location in a blue sedan. The car is being towed, according to the CHP. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - An estimated 30 feet of concrete divider was destroyed and thrown across freeway lanes after a big rig crashed on the I-10 freeway Sunday morning. A two-hour Sig Alert is scheduled to expire or possibly extend around 10:40 a.m. for the HOV, No. 1, 2 and 3 lanes for eastbound lanes and the HOV and No. 1 lanes for the westbound side at Garey Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The big rig crashed and destroyed the center divider just west of Garey Avenue before 6:30 a.m. May 19. A vehicle struck the debris in the aftermath of the crash and became disabled as well. |
