Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEREY PARK - Police are planning a DUI/driver license checkpoint to take place at an undisclosed location in town August 24.
The checkpoint will run from 6 p.m. August 24 to 2 a.m. the following day. Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI crashes and arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired, according to the Monterey Park Police Department. “The safety of our community is and always will be our mission,” said Monterey Park Police Chief Kelly Gordon. “We are still out there in the middle of a pandemic because driving under the influence is still dangerous and puts a further strain on critical resources.” |
