Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ROSEMEAD - A crash, an escape on foot and a set of powerful teeth punctuated the night as deputies searched for the driver of a stolen vehicle March 1.
The suspect decided to start running through residential properties after he crashed while trying to get away from a deputy who discovered the vehicle the suspect was driving was reported stolen, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. A patrol deputy saw the driver acting suspiciously Monday evening and checked the license plate. The suspect took a turn far too fast before the deputy could even initiate a traffic stop. The suspect crashed into a parked vehicle and a tree in the 9000 block of Garrett Street, according to the Sheriff’s Temple Station. A helicopter from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department aided by deputies from Pico Rivera, City of Industry and East Los Angeles assisted with a containment to keep the suspect from escaping the area. Additional help on four legs arrived in the form of a Sheriff’s K9 named Jack from the Special Enforcement Bureau. “Despite numerous warnings on loud speakers from both on the ground and in the air, the suspect still would not give up. The suspect was ultimately bit by K-9 “Jack” and was arrested for multiple charges, including vehicle theft with priors convictions and hit and run,” according to the Sheriff’s Temple Station. |
