ROSEMEAD – A man who was initially described as a homicide suspect was arrested after a lengthy barricade inside a motel room Tuesday.
The unidentified suspect was flushed out of the motel room with gas canisters by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau. The suspect made a most dramatic exit from the room as deputies surrounded the suspect, according to video from CBS2 news.
The suspect was holed up in the 100 block of San Gabriel Boulevard.
Deputies sent a K9 after the suspect and he was subdued by the dog who ferociously clamped down on the suspect’s flesh. The barricade lasted more than four hours. Whittier Police initially tried to get the suspect to surrender. The barricade is unfolding in the 1000 block of San Gabriel Blvd. Whittier Police attempted to detain the suspect initially, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau have taken command of the operation. Crisis negotiators are also assisting. The remainder of guests and staff at the motel, as well as residents in nearby homes have been evacuated, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ROSEMEAD - A clerk was shot and received injuries considered not life-threatening during a robbery at a liquor store Saturday evening, a Sheriff’s lieutenant said.
The female clerk was shot once at Kev’s Liquor, 9442 Valley Blvd., around 6:20 p.m. and was last listed in critical condition, according to Lt. Liu of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The suspect rifled through a cash register, but it is not known what the suspect possibly fled with, Liu told SGV CityWatch. There is no suspect, or vehicle description available. The woman was discovered deceased at the scene June 25, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Temple Station were sent to an alley behind a retail center on Garvey Avenue around 3:11 p.m. and found a woman down and unresponsive. The apparent cause of the woman’s death has yet to be revealed. No other information is available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ROSEMEAD - Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies busted an illegal gambling operation April 14, the department announced.
A search warrant served in the 3100 block of Bartlett Avenue in Rosemead at 10 a.m. Wednesday helped deputies to seize 14 gambling machines, three firearms, hundreds of rounds of ammo, 10 magazines (4 high-capacity), narcotics for sale methamphetamine, heroin, oxycodone and more than $10,000 in US currency, according to the Sheriff’s Department. Two of the three weapons seized were un-serialized “ghost guns.” One man was arrested at the location. He has local gang ties and was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, ammunition, possession of narcotics while armed and possessing narcotics for sale. Rosemead Special Assignment Officers with the Sheriff’s Department, along with Major Crimes Bureau, Casino Unit deputies are investigating. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ROSEMEAD - A crash, an escape on foot and a set of powerful teeth punctuated the night as deputies searched for the driver of a stolen vehicle March 1.
The suspect decided to start running through residential properties after he crashed while trying to get away from a deputy who discovered the vehicle the suspect was driving was reported stolen, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. A patrol deputy saw the driver acting suspiciously Monday evening and checked the license plate. The suspect took a turn far too fast before the deputy could even initiate a traffic stop. The suspect crashed into a parked vehicle and a tree in the 9000 block of Garrett Street, according to the Sheriff’s Temple Station. A helicopter from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department aided by deputies from Pico Rivera, City of Industry and East Los Angeles assisted with a containment to keep the suspect from escaping the area. Additional help on four legs arrived in the form of a Sheriff’s K9 named Jack from the Special Enforcement Bureau. “Despite numerous warnings on loud speakers from both on the ground and in the air, the suspect still would not give up. The suspect was ultimately bit by K-9 “Jack” and was arrested for multiple charges, including vehicle theft with priors convictions and hit and run,” according to the Sheriff’s Temple Station. The call was dispatched to firefighters around 3:51 a.m. in the 2400 block of Gladys Avenue. Flames were seen coming from the detached garage. The fire was extinguished around 4:18 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Arson investigators were sent to determine the cause. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ROSEMEAD - One person was hospitalized Sunday with smoke inhalation after being found inside a burning restaurant. Deputies arrived to a possible burglary at a restaurant in the 8700 block of East Valley Boulevard in Rosemead just after 2 a.m. October 6 and discovered a broken window to the building. A person was seen inside, said Lt. Kusayanagi of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. The person was still being medically cleared as of 12:44 p.m., many hours after being hospitalized for smoke inhalation. While deputies believe the person was committing a crime, a motive is still unknown, Kusayanagi said. Arriving deputies could not gain access to the building after discovering a gate was likely chained or locked after the suspect went inside, Kusayanagi said.
Firefighters, dispatched at 2:44 a.m., were unable at first to enter and fight the flames until the suspect was detained. Once the suspect was secured, firefighters knocked the flames down by 3:27 a.m. There is much smoke damage inside the restaurant, making it difficult to determine what the suspect was doing inside, Kusayanagi said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ROSEMEAD - A teen threatening to jump from an overpass climbed to a waiting female deputy Saturday evening. The teen climbed out from San Gabriel Boulevard to outside the chain link fence over eastbound lanes of the 60 freeway. Deputies who arrived immediately began talking with the teen, according to Lt. Vienna of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Temple Station were called to the scene at 6:13 p.m.
The Sheriff’s Mental Evaluation Team, crisis negotiators began arriving, Vienna said. The teen refused to speak to male deputies on scene and requested a female deputy to talk to, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. “Once we had a female deputy establish communication with the patient, she did come over on her own and has been taken to a hospital for an evaluation,” Vienna told SGV CityWatch. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ROSEMEAD - A teen is reportedly threatening to jump from a bridge onto the 60 freeway Saturday night. Authorities have all eastbound and westbound lanes stopped. A mental evaluation team from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is en route via helicopter to assist in helping the teen surrender. The teen is standing on the San Gabriel Boulevard overpass, according to Officer Elizabeth Kravig of the CHP.
California Highway Patrol officers were called to the San Gabriel Boulevard overpass just after 6 p.m. August 17 to a report of a pedestrian climbing the fence to the overpass. Drivers stopped and attempted to prevent the teen from climbing over, according to the CHP. The teen is reportedly refusing to speak with a male officer and wants only to speak with a woman, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. Sheriff’s deputies with the Temple Station, CHP officers, Los Angeles County firefighters and Montebello Police are on scene. |
