Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SAN MARINO - Vigilant residents helped identify two suspects who lifted packages from their homes Thursday. The suspects, 25-year-old Emily Veliz and 24-year-old Maria Pule, both from Lynwood, were arrested by officers searching for package thieves accused of taking property from two San Marino homes February 7. A resident provided suspect and vehicle descriptions captured through her iRing security camera in the 2300 block of Ridgeway Road after the suspects were witnessed stealing form the home around 12:49 p.m., San Marino Police said. During the search, a resident in the 2100 block of Adair Street reported similar suspects in a similar vehicle taking a package, San Marin Police said. Officers located a suspect vehicle at 2:10 p.m. at California Boulevard and Winston Avenue. “A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and the two occupants were contacted. During the investigation, San Marino Police Officers were able to identify stolen property that was positively identified by numerous victims in San Marino,” San Marino Police said. The vehicle the suspects were in was also reported stolen. Both suspects were booked on suspicion of theft, possession of stolen property, providing false information to an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia, San Marino Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SAN MARINO - Police are searching for two men who robbed their victim of a cellphone after one of the suspects pointed a silver handgun against the victim’s head late Friday night.
The victim and his child both arrived to their residence in the 1200 block of St. Albans Road around 10:01 p.m. The child exited the vehicle and entered the home after the victim stopped. The victim drove the vehicle towards the end of the driveway and after exiting, came in contact with two men, San Marin Police said. One of the suspects pointed the silver handgun at the victim’s head and demanded the victim’s wallet, cellphone and watch, the latter was taken by the second suspect, San Marino Police said. The suspects fled east through the driveway to S.t Albans and towards Monterey Road. No one was injured. The armed suspect is described as a Black man in his 30s, 6 foot 2 inches tall to - 6 feet 3 inches tall, 180 pounds and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes. . The second suspect is also a Black male in his 30s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds and was last seen wearing a black short sleeve t-shirt with white lettering in the front, black pants and black shoes. The suspect was found after hiding for nearly three hours in the garage in the 500 block of Huntington Drive, San Marino Police said. A patrol officer found two vehicles blocking the road on westbound Huntington Drive at Pasqualito Drive around 12:39 a.m. The officer was told by his dispatcher that one of the vehicles was reported stolen the day prior out of Pomona, San Marino Police said. The suspect fled when the officer ordered him to turn around. A lengthy search by San Marino, South Pasadena, San Gabriel, Alhambra and Pasadena Police yielded an arrest at 3:12 a.m. Manuel Hernandez, 23, was booked on suspicion of auto theft, resisting or delaying an officer, trespassing and methamphetamine possession. Hernandez is scheduled to appear at Alhambra Superior Court July 11. The home burglary occurred around 6:37 p.m. in the 1900 block of Robin Road. While on scene, a neighbor reported two men fleeing through their backyard, San Marino Police said. A second neighbor reported seeing the two suspects on his surveillance system in the 2600 block of Lorain. A search by ground and by helicopter could not locate the suspects, who were only described as Black men. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SAN MARINO - Two home burglaries occurred over a two-day span with suspects breaking their way in by shattering a glass door and window, police said. The first burglary occurred Thursday, April 19 around 7:50 a.m. in the 1700 block of Hilliard Drive. A resident heard the sound of shattering glass and discovered a female suspect who fled after being confronted, San Marino Police said. The suspect wore a baseball hat, dark glasses, a black bandana and unknown color pants and shirt. The next day at 10:20 a.m., police responded to a burglary alarm in the 700 block of Canterbury Road. Officers discovered a shattered rear window and rear door forced open. Officers were unable to locate any suspects, San Marino Police said. One suspect wore a green hoodie with a “Cal” logo on the front, dark pants, dark shoes and white socks. The second suspect wore a green hoodie, dark pants, dark shoes and white socks.

Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SAN MARINO – Police and firefighters arrived to extinguish a truck fire and learned a man burned to death inside Monday morning.
The man found burned to death in the black Toyota truck around 8:39 a.m. allegedly drove to his former employer’s home and intentionally rammed her vehicle as she was attempting to leave, according to Sgt. Tim Tebbetts of the San Marino Police Department. The attack and death occurred in the 1600 block of Shenandoah Road. As the investigation began, the former employer just arrived to the San Marino Police Department after escaping the attack and reported the incident, Tebbetts said. “Witnesses stated after the victim left the scene, they saw the suspect pour a liquid substance over him and the vehicle. The suspect then ignited himself inside the vehicle,” Tebbetts said. Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call San Marino Police Detective Qureshi at 626-300-0726.
