The crash occurred at Turnbull Canyon Road and Salt Lake Avenue. Officer Moises Marroquin of the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Center confirmed the crash resulted in a death.
The collision was reported around 12:30 p.m. Authorities may be preparing for a hard closure of nearby roads during the investigation. The driver, 18-year-old Alexander Novoa, lost control of his 1992 Mazda Miata while negotiating a left curve on southbound Turnbull Canyon Road south of Skyline Drive and went down an embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Miata rolled over as it descended the embankment, trapping Novoa and 18-year-old Anthony Szeto, the CHP said. Novoa and Szeto were freed by Los Angeles County Firefighters. Szeto died at the scene. Novoa was flown by helicopter to County/USC Medical Center to be treated. Both men were wearing their seat belts. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, the CHP said. The motorcycle and possibly two other vehicles crashed at the intersection of Stimson Avenue and Garo Street around 5:44 p.m. The California Highway Patrol is handling the crash, according to Officer Stephen Brandt of the CHP Traffic Management Center. At least one person suffered major injuries, but it is unclear who was injured and what the extent is. Deputies are assisting with traffic control, according to Lt. Rick Rector of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. A Los Angeles County Fire unit has arrived for transport of a patient or patients, but base yet to leave the scene more than one hour after the crash occurred. The collision occurred in the intersection at Hacienda Boulevard and Del Prado Drive around 2:15 p.m. The rider, who is unidentified, died at the scene, the CHP said. The driver of a Toyota Sienna minivan was turning east onto Del Prado Drive from southbound Hacienda Boulevard. The rider of the Ninja was driving northbound on Hacienda in the No. 2 lane when the crash occurred. The minivan’s driver, a San Gabriel woman, was uninjured. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, the CHP said. |
