A Sig Alert was issued at 11:27 a.m. The HOV and No. 1 lane are blocked for 30 minutes after all lanes were initially closed. CHP Officers were called to the area of a pedestrian in traffic lanes at 11:17 a.m. “A pedestrian was running in lanes, hitting other vehicles,” according to Officer Peter Nicholson of the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Center. While Nicholson was unable to confirm details yet, the pedestrian was armed with a weapon, according to CHP radio traffic. The pedestrian, initially thought to be armed with gun, was found carrying a tire iron. The pedestrian was somehow injured and went into cardiac arrest. He was taken to an area hospital and his condition is unknown. Firefighters were dispatched to a reported two-to-three-vehicle collision an the east I-10 west of San Gabriel Boulevard at 11:21 a.m. One person at the scene was treated after going into cardiac arrest, according to Dispatch Supervisor Cheryl Sims of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The vehicle associated with the pedestrian was reported stolen out of Huntington Park. Two men carjacked a driver. The location of the second suspect is unknown, according to CHP radio traffic. Dennis Anthony Perez, 48, a San Gabriel man, was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit and run, San Gabriel Police said. An anonymous community tip led investigators to Perez and his blue truck, used in the deadly October 26 crash. Perez has more than three DUI arrests previously, San Gabriel Police said, but it is unclear if alcohol played a roll in the crash. He is being held in the Inmate Reception in Los Angeles and is awaiting a scheduled appearance in Alhambra Municipal Court November 1. Meiyu Li and her granddaughter Paisley Chen were the pedestrians killed by the driver of a Chevrolet S-10 Xtreme pickup truck Friday, October 26. The grandmother was pushing the girl in a stroller when the driver, who is still outstanding, struck them in the intersection of Del Mar Avenue and Live Oak Street, authorities said. Investigators said the truck is black or midnight blue, features an extended cab, chrome rims, rear window tint, decals and should have front end damage, San Gabriel Police said. The grandmother and granddaughter were in a marked crosswalk when they were struck, San Gabriel Police said. The driver of a dark or midnight blue Chevy S10 Xtreme pickup truck hit the woman who was pushing her granddaughter in a stroller in a marked crosswalk at Live Oak Street and Del Mar Avenue, according to the San Gabriel Police Department. The pickup featured an extended cab, chrome rims and rear window tint. The truck should have considerable damage concentrated on the right front side, San Gabriel Police said. The collision occurred around 9:35 p.m. Friday, October 26. Images from the scene painted a tragic picture: personal items strewn across the road, including a stroller. The victim, De Si Tu of San Gabriel, was found laying in the street around 6:15 a.m. on Valley Boulevard at Stevens Avenue and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the San Gabriel Police Department. Police found surveillance footage that revealed a small, white SUV leaving the area, San Gabriel Police said. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SAN GABRIEL - As many as six fire companies battled a two-alarm blaze that damaged a vacant building and the San Gabriel Lanes Bowling Alley Saturday.
The fire was reported after 9 a.m. in a vacant building in the 200 block of South San Gabriel Avenue October 6. At least five other fire departments, including Alhambra, Arcadia, San Marino, Pasadena and the Los Angeles County Fire Department, assisted in fighting the flames, according to the San Gabriel Fire Department. Smoke could be seen from responding firefighters at San Gabriel Fire Station 51, 1303 Del Mar Ave., according to San Gabriel Fire Department radio traffic. Firefighters quickly upgraded to a second-alarm response. Flames began extending into the San Gabriel Lanes Bowling Alley. “Despite an aggressive interior fire attack in order to extinguish the blaze at a small scale, the stability of the structure began to compromise and the decision was made to exit the building,” the San Gabriel Fire Department said. “Tactics then transferred to a defensive fire attack, commonly known as “Surround and Drown.’” The cause is under investigation. No injuries were reported. San Gabriel Firefighters responded to 324 San Marcos and during the firefight, found evidence of the operation. Officers were requested to respond and investigate, according to Sgt. James Just of the San Gabriel Police Department. “Apparently, the guy had just started to rent the place. It looks like he was trying to set something up there,” Just said. A faulty electrical cord may be to blame, Just said. The fire extinguished itself as firefighters arrived. Very little marijuana was found inside the unit. No arrests have yet been made. The shooting was reported at 2:13 a.m. in the 5500 block of Walnut Grove Avenue Monday. Deputies learned after they arrived that the husband accidentally fired on his wife, said Lt. Marsha Williams of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Temple Station. The husband is detained as deputies continue to investigate, Williams said. Adrian Ness is being held in lieu of $2 million bail after shooting his son and wife in the 6300 block of Muscatel Avenue in North San Gabriel around 1:45 p.m. Ness was booked at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station and was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, deputies said. A motive for the shooting remains unknown. Deputies responding to a reported gunshot victim encounter Ness and detained him. The son was found soon after. The wife was found possibly in a second location, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. Both son and wife were hospitalized and underwent surgery, deputies said. Two people were shot in the 6300 block of Muscatel Avenue. A suspect was taken into custody, according to Sgt. Durante of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Temple Station. Two patients were taken to an area hospital, according to Dispatch Supervisor melanie Flores of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The patients’ conditions are unknown. According to Sheriff’s broadcast traffic, the shooting resulted from a possible domestic fight. An adult male and woman in her 80s were reportedly shot. |
