The victim wound up at the Arco gas station, 460 Workman Mill Rd. Deputies followed a trail of blood to the crime scene at Basetdale Avenue and Don Julian Road, according to Lt. Julie Geary of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Firefighters responded to a call from deputies around 7:15 p.m. A gas station employee called 911, Geary told SGV CityWatch. The victim was transported to an area trauma center, according to Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “The victim was shot three times and is in stable condition. He is expected to live,” Geary told SGV CityWatch. The victim is being uncooperative, Geary told SGV CityWatch. No suspect or vehicle description is available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AVOCADO HEIGHTS – A man said to be out on a jog collapsed and was pronounced dead at Workman Mill Road and Don Julian Road early Thursday. Firefighters were called to the scene at 7:53 a.m. January 23 to a cardiac arrest victim near a grocery outlet, according to a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Deputies also responded to a report of a man down. The publicly-unidentified was possibly out for a jog when he collapsed and died, according to Sgt. Andre Kneubuhler of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. An autopsy will determine the cause of death. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AVOCADO HEIGHTS - A vehicle possibly rolled over and crashed at the 605 and 60 freeways Monday night, killing one person. The transition road from the eastbound 60 freeway to the north and south 605 freeways will be closed until at least 9:30 p.m. A caller reported witnessing the vehicle roll over, according to Officer Stephan Brandt of the California Highway Patrol. The crash was first reported at 6:47 p.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AVOCADO HEIGHTS – The driver found in a submerged vehicle that plunged off the 605 freeway early Tuesday has yet to be identified. The collision occurred around 12:20 a.m. November 5 on the southbound 605 freeway north of the 60 freeway. Two CHP officers responded and found a Mazda submerged in the water, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A dive team with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded and found the driver deceased. No additional victims were located after a search. Written by AARON CASTREJON CItyWatch Editor AVOCADO HEIGHTS - One person was transported by a helicopter to an area trauma center Monday after a semi rolled down an embankment and crashed. The collision occurred around 2:30 p.m. on the northbound 605 freeway trans road to the eastbound 60 freeway August 26. The semi hauling a trailer suffered major front end damage, an occupant became trapped, according to the California Highway Patrol. Firefighters requested heavy machinery to free the trapped patient.
The CHP issued a full closure of the affected trans road, a closure that is set to end possibly just before 7 p.m. The patient was freed and a helicopter landed nearby to pick up the patient. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AVOCADO HEIGHTS - A body was discovered on the dirt shoulder of a transition road at the eastbound 60 and 605 freeways Monday morning, homicide investigators said. A passerby called the California Highway Patrol around 9 a.m. June 10 to report seeing what was believed to be a body. Detectives have not yet revealed the age, gender or race of the victim, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The body was found on the shoulder near the trans road from the eastbound 60 freeway to the northbound 605.
A Sig Alert was issued for an unknown duration for the east 60 trans road to the north 605, according to the California Highway Patrol. The shooting occurred at 3rd Avenue and Don Julian Road just after 10 p.m. June 4. The victim was hit in a lower extremity with an unknown caliber weapon. He was take to an area hospital, according to Sgt. Armando Martinez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station.

Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AVOCADO HEIGHTS - Crews continue to remove debris from the scene of a crash after a big rig landed on the center divider of the 60 freeway east of the 605 Friday. Four other vehicles were hit by the 24-ton big rig before it crashed on the center divider around 3:36 a.m. May 3. Debris was sent into both eastbound and westbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The eastbound No. 5 lane is open to traffic. All other eastbound lanes remain closed for an unknown duration, the CHP said. Both sides of the 60 freeway were closed briefly while Caltrans crews worked to remove chunks of concrete spewed across lanes from the crash. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor AVOCADO HEIGHTS - An El Monte man accused of DUI that injured two CHP officers and three others Tuesday was arrested, the CHP said. The CHP officers were assisting Baldwin Park man Gerardo Eulloque, 38, with his disabled 2009 Mazda 5 on the right shoulder of the eastbound 60 freeway east of the 605 around 2:51 a.m. when another driver struck the CHP cruiser parked behind the Mazda, the CHP said. Adrian Estrada, 23, the suspected DUI driver's 2011 Chevy Malibu struck the left side of the CHP cruiser.
The cruiser was pushed into the Mazda 5, which struck the CHP officers and Eulloque, the CHP said. The CHP officers received minor injuries, Eulloque sustained moderate injuries after being hit by the Mazda. Estrada received moderate injuries. One of the injured CHP officers immediately called for backup after the initial collision, yelling for officers to initiate a traffic break. A 2000 Honda Accord, driven by a Rowland Heights man, struck Estrada’s Malibu, which became disabled in traffic lanes. One of the injured civilians was down in traffic lanes. He was able to speak to deputies, but was clearly severely injured, according to CHP radio traffic. The Accord’s driver sustained moderate injuries. Estrada's passenger sustained major injuries. All eastbound lanes were closed at 3:05 a.m. The HOV lane was opened by 4:15 a.m. and all lanes followed suit by 5:37 a.m. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor AVOCADO HEIGHTS - A shooting at a large gathering left no victims when a suspect opened fire Saturday night.
The suspect was chased on foot by deputies after firing a handgun in the area of 4th Avenue and Lomitas Avenue just before 11 p.m. About 15 people at the gathering fled after the suspect opened fire, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. Possibly four people were fired upon, but no one was hit. The suspect, described as a Hispanic man in a black long-sleeve shirt, black baseball hat and black pants fled deputies towards a church where deputies lost sight of him. The suspect lost his hat during the chase. Deputies have recovered it, as well as spent shell casings in the street. A helicopter is aiding the search from the air and a K9 unit is en route. |
