CityWatch Editor MONTEBELLO - Four victims of a bloody attack were found in an apartment complex early Thursday morning. Police responding to a call of unknown circumstances at 414 W. Lohart Ave. discovered a man, woman, a boy and girl all suffering head injuries. The man and boy were declared dead at the scene, according to the Montebello Police Department. First responders were dispatched to the horrific scene around 2:40 a.m. July 24. According to initial Montebello police broadcast traffic, a bloodied item described as a hatchet was found on the ground near the woman. Officers were performing door knocks on another unit at the apartment complex, and reportedly forced their way into the unit to perform a search, according to Montebello Police radio traffic. During the search, officers located a male victim suffering from what was described as massive head trauma, blood seeped through the floor. The girl and boy were then found. The survivors were transported to Los Angeles General Medical Center, according to Montebello Police radio traffic. Officers initially suspect domestic violence as a cause. “There are no outstanding suspects, and there is no danger to the community. Montebello Police Department Detectives are investigating this crime, and the investigation is on-going,” according to the Montebello Police Department in a written statement. CityWatch Editor MONTEBELLO - One shooting victim was hospitalized and a suspect was also found shot Tuesday night. The crime scene is set up in the 800 block of West Mines Avenue. The victim’s condition is not publicly known. Police arrived on scene around 7:45 p.m. and located the victim. Witnesses immediately physically identified the suspect and told officers he fled towards Montebello Boulevard. A gray Chevrolet SUV was described as a getaway vehicle, according to Montebello Police radio traffic. At 8 p.m., officers located the Chevy SUV near 545 S. Montebello Avenue. Nine minutes later, officers discovered the suspect inside the SUV. He suffered what was initially described as a gunshot wound to the head. The motive for the shooting is not publicly known. Montebello Police are receiving mutual aid assistance from Monterey Park and from nearby Sheriff’s stations to contain the crime scene. Written by AARON CASTREJON
CityWatch Editor UPDATE: As of 8:18 a.m., the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau concluded their response to the barricaded burglary suspect. No arrests have been made. Montebello police officers are continuing an investigation into this reported mental health incident, according to the Sheriff’s Department. MONTEBELLO - The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau is at a home in Montebello where a reported burglary suspect is barricaded Saturday morning. The suspect was in phone contact with Montebello police dispatcher’s and refused to surrender, according to Montebello Police radio traffic. In a strange turn of events, the victim no longer desires prosecution and, based on that information, operations at the scene are winding down, at least for Montebello’s part. It is unclear if the victim knows the suspect. Montebello officers are coordinating with leaving the scene. Officers stationed at containment points are leaving and are conversing with Special Enforcement Bureau deputies at their command post, according to Montebello police radio traffic. It is not immediately clear if Special Enforcement Bureau deputies will also be leaving the scene. Montebello police officers were called to the home in the 300 block of North 19th Street around 2:49 a.m. Along with the arrival of the Special Enforcement Bureau, the Sheriff’s Mental Evaluation Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were called to get the suspect to surrender. CityWatch Editor MONTEBELLO - A child was injured by a vehicle in the residential neighborhood Thursday evening. It is initially believed that the child was out wandering alone in the 800 block of North Wilcox Avenue. Officers believe the child to be somewhere around 3 years old. The child was conscious and breathing upon the arrival of first responders and suffered abrasions to a leg, according to Montebello Police radio traffic. The collision occurred just before 8:40 p.m. Thursday, October 24. Minutes after the collision, officers located the mother of the injured child. CityWatch Editor MONTEBELLO - A man who was hospitalized after suffering a gunshot wound later died from his injuries, Sheriff’s homicide investigators said. The shooting took place in the 1100 block of Carob Way, Saturday, June 29. First responders were sent to the location around 7:47 p.m. The Sheriff’s Information Bureau offered few other details. It is unclear if investigators have identified a motive, or identified a suspect. CityWatch Editor MONTEBELLO - A registered sex offender from Los Angeles was taken into custody June 12, accused of making inappropriate comments to possibly as many as three young girls. Emanuel Rivera, 38, allegedly made an inappropriate comment to one girl in the area of Washington Boulevard and Greenwood Avenue in the early morning hours. Rivera then allegedly made his way to Washington Boulevard and 4th Street were a witness told police he approached two other young girls, according to the Montebello Police Department. Officers located Rivera and eventually took him into custody and booked him on suspicion of felony child annoyance. “Officers were able to contact the victim from the first incident; however, in the second incident, officers only spoke with a witness because the possible victims had left prior to the officers arrival,” according to the Montebello Police Department in a written statement. First responders were sent into a gunshot investigation in the 1600 block of Neil Armstrong Street just before midnight Thursday, December 28. A Latino man was found suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso. He died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “An individual at the scene claimed responsibility for the shooting. He is currently being questioned,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. It is not publicly clearer if investigators have determined a motive for the shooting. The incident unfolded in the 300 block of North Garfield Avenue just after 8 p.m. The suspect, only described as an older man, refused to surrender to authorities, and barricaded himself inside a residence for several hours, according to Darrol Hunt, public information officer for the City of Montebello. A perimeter was established with the assistance of Monterey Park police officers. Crisis negotiators were on scene to convince the suspect to peacefully surrender, which he did around 12:40 a.m. September 13, Hunt told SGV CityWatch. The suspect was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators declined to identify the suspect, citing the ongoing investigation, Hunt told SGV CityWatch. Montebello police officers were called to the river bed just behind the Grant Rea Park, 600 Rea Dr., around 5:17 p.m. July 18 on a report of gunfire. First responders located the man who was taken to a hospital where he died, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It is unclear if homicide detectives have learned a motive or a suspect description.
