Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONTEBELLO - No one was injured after a pursuit ended with police gunfire in East Los Angeles, authorities said Saturday. Arrested was Tom Rojas, 37. Police began pursuing him after responding to a burglary call at The Shops Montebello, 2134 Montebello Town Center, around 3 a.m. after someone reported a vehicle crashed into the JC Penny store front, Montebello Police said. The pursuit ended after police fired at the suspect who then crashed near Alma and Whittier Boulevard after a K9 took Rojas down.
Rojas fled JC Penny after the initial burglary call, but was tracked to Pico Rivera where officers attempted to detain him, but he sped away, triggering a pursuit. Rojas allegedly drove recklessly along surface and tried to strike other vehicles and police vehicles on the road, Montebello Police said. Rojas has been booked on suspicion of attempted murder, felony evading and assault with a deadly weapon. Rojas is being held in lieu of $1.125 million bail. |
