CHARTER OAK - A man in his 20s was subdued by deputies Friday afternoon after causing himself numerous lacerations while breaking windows at a residence, a Sheriff’s lieutenant said.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. in the 5000 block of North Willow Avenue near East Nubia Street, June 5.

Originally responding to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon occurring, deputies learned after arriving on scene that the suspect was vandalizing a home by breaking out windows, said Lt. Melikidse of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station.

The suspect lived at the home where the vandalism occurred, according to Lt. Ed Mackenzie of the Sheriff’s San Dimas Station.

“He was having some kind of medical episode. We’re not exactly sure what,” Mackenzie told SGV CityWatch.

Three deputies were injured while detaining the suspect.

One deputy received an abrasion to one of his knuckles, another deputy received a calf injury — both of those deputies declined medical treatment. Another deputy was checked out at a hospital, Mackenzie told SGV CityWatch.

The suspect received severe lacerations during the vandalism, Melikidse told SGV CityWatch.

The suspect was transported by firefighters to an area trauma center for treatment, according to Dispatch Supervisor Martin Rangel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The suspect remains hospitalized as of Saturday morning. It is unclear if the suspect will be given a mental evaluation. Charges are still pending, McKenzie told SGV CityWatch.

“Once he is discharged, we will probably be taking him into custody,” Mackenzie said.
