Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CHARTER OAK - A brawl between teens broke out at Charter Oak Park September 15.
It is unclear exactly why the teenagers began fighting each other at the park, 20261 E. Covina Blvd., but at one point someone brandished what appeared to be a handgun and pointed it at some of the teens. Some of the incident was caught on cell phone video. The park is across the street from Charter Oak High School. “Our students' safety is always paramount, and I want to thank those who contacted the school and the Sheriff’s Department to report the incident,” according to Charter Oak High School Principal Matthew Dultz in a written statement sent to parents the day of the brawl. The San Dimas Sheriff’s Station said the Sheriff’s Parks Bureau is handling the investigation. Several messages were left seeking information on the investigation, but those messages were not returned. It is unclear if any arrests were made or if a weapon was seized. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CHARTER OAK - A man in his 20s was subdued by deputies Friday afternoon after causing himself numerous lacerations while breaking windows at a residence, a Sheriff’s lieutenant said.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. in the 5000 block of North Willow Avenue near East Nubia Street, June 5. Originally responding to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon occurring, deputies learned after arriving on scene that the suspect was vandalizing a home by breaking out windows, said Lt. Melikidse of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The suspect lived at the home where the vandalism occurred, according to Lt. Ed Mackenzie of the Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. “He was having some kind of medical episode. We’re not exactly sure what,” Mackenzie told SGV CityWatch. Three deputies were injured while detaining the suspect. One deputy received an abrasion to one of his knuckles, another deputy received a calf injury — both of those deputies declined medical treatment. Another deputy was checked out at a hospital, Mackenzie told SGV CityWatch. The suspect received severe lacerations during the vandalism, Melikidse told SGV CityWatch. The suspect was transported by firefighters to an area trauma center for treatment, according to Dispatch Supervisor Martin Rangel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The suspect remains hospitalized as of Saturday morning. It is unclear if the suspect will be given a mental evaluation. Charges are still pending, McKenzie told SGV CityWatch. “Once he is discharged, we will probably be taking him into custody,” Mackenzie said.
