Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ROWLAND HEIGHTS - The driver of a stolen white Dodge GMC pickup truck was caught after leading Industry deputies on a brief chase and foot pursuit Thursday morning. Deputies attempted to stop the driver just after 1 a.m. at South Azusa Avenue and Anaheim-Puente Road April 23. The GMC was reportedly stolen from the Industry area two days ago, according to Lt. Lim of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station.
The driver fled east into Rowland Heights. The GMC was abandoned near Best Western Plus Executive Inn, 18880 Gale Ave., where the suspect fled on foot before being arrested. The vehicle crashed into the side of a home in the 2900 block of Blakeman Avenue around 4:43 a.m. April 18, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Two males inside the vehicle were witnessed fleeing the crash scene on foot, according to Lt. Avila of the Los Angeles County Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff’s Station. Firefighters have an urban search and rescue apparatus on scene. The vehicle crashed through the kitchen of the home. No occupants inside the home have been injured, according to the California Highway Patrol. The males who fled the vehicle were reportedly wearing light colored sweatshirts and light colored pants, the CHP was told. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ROWLAND HEIGHTS - The county coroner identified a woman who died outside a Rowland Heights shopping complex Monday. Firefighters and deputies responded to the 18900 block of Daisetta Street just before 8:30 a.m. March 23 for an unspecified medical emergency. The woman was declared dead at the scene. The victim is 47-year-old Maioxian Liu of Rowland Heights, according to Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. A cause of death has yet to be determined. An autopsy has not yet been performed. A Sheriffs Walnut/Diamond Bar Station supervisor deferred questions regarding the death to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. The detective handling the investigation has yet to return a request for information. Deputies detained three suspects who fled the Sentra near the 99 Cents Only Store, 19033 Colima Rd. The driver drove away after three occupants escaped and were caught. Deputies found the abandoned Sentra nearby, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Walnut Station traffic. A helicopter is assisting with the search. Deputies attempted to stop the suspect who was driving recklessly around 7:10 p.m. near Colima Road and Sordello Street, according to Sgt. Canfield of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Walnut/Diamond Bar Station. The driver evaded police for about a half mile before he stopped in the area of Colima Road and Fullerton Road and fled on foot. He was soon arrested, Canfield said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ROWLAND HEIGHTS - A suspected stolen vehicle suspect was jailed September 20 after reportedly striking a deputy’s patrol car repeatedly during a pursuit. The unidentified suspect fled a deputy who tried to pull him over on suspicion of reckless DUI driving during the early-morning hours. The suspect fled at high speed, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “As the deputy was pursuing the vehicle, the driver made a U-turn, headed straight at the pursuing deputy’s vehicle and rammed into the patrol car multiple times,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
The suspect fled on foot after striking two parked vehicles, but was found and arrested after a search. The deputy was treated at the scene. The suspect was booked on suspicion of evading a peace officer, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and reasonable cause, stolen vehicle. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ROWLAND HEIGHTS - Four suspects sought for an armed robbery in Beverly Hills were pursued around Rowland Heights and Walnut Thursday. Two suspects were apprehended after fleeing a red Hyundai Accent that deputies were attempting to stop in the area of Colima Road and Fairway Drive August 22 around 5:30 p.m. Walnut deputies, who patrol Rowland Heights, were alerted by Beverly Hills Police that the car was tracked to their area, the Sheriff’s Walnut/Diamond Bar Station said. Before deputies could stop the car, two suspects jumped out and ran, leaving the driver and one passenger in the vehicle, which fled to the 60 freeway where the pursuit encountered heavy traffic.
Back on surface streets, the driver crashed the car on Valley Boulevard, heavily disabling it, but he continued to elude deputies and Beverly Hills Police. The pursuit trickled to 10 to 20 miles per hour before the driver stopped in the area of Garcia Lane and Grand Avenue. The two remaining suspects were arrested without further incident. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ROWLAND HEIGHTS - Three suspects were jailed Friday after the victim they allegedly stole cash from during an Internet transaction took the keys from their vehicle. The robbery took place near Nogales Street and Colima Road. The suspects took the money from their victim during the Internet transaction and fled on foot to a nearby vehicle, according to Sgt. Canfield of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station. The robbery occurred just before 5:30 p.m. August 2. The victim located the suspects and was able to prevent them from driving away.
“The victim pulled the keys out of the suspect’s vehicle,” Canfield said. The amount of cash taken was not immediately known. Booking information was not available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ROWLAND HEIGHTS - A vegetation fire is burning roughly two to three acres inside what was described as a nursery Sunday afternoon. The fire is located at Old Ranch Ravine Road and Desire Avenue. Firefighters were dispatched around 4:53 p.m. June 30. The fire spread to some trees and is threatening one structure. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ROWLAND HEIGHTS - Two teens were arrested Friday night after a witness saw them kicking a victim on the ground at Pearl Plaza. The teens were found during a search of the parking structure at Pearl Plaza 18848 Labin Ct. At least one caller reported a fight in progress on top of the parking structure, according to Sgt. Avila of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Walnut/Diamond Bar Station.
One victim was located on top of the parking structure. A perimeter search was set up after the suspects scattered, Avila said. Avila didn’t know the extent of injuries to the victim, nor the victim’s age. The Asian teens arrested are between 15 and 17 years old. |
