Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor VINCENT - A group of suspects held a security guard at gunpoint and fled with marijuana and money during a daytime robbery Thursday. The crime unfolded at B.B.S., 16725 E. Arrow Hwy., around 4:45 p.m. July 18. The suspects reportedly forced their way in and took an estimated $2,500 of marijuana jars and $500 in money, according to Lt. Mackenzie of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station.
The security guard was forced to the ground while the cash and weed was taken, Mackenzie said. The security got up and yelled at the suspects as they ran. The weed was dropped as the suspects fled into an vehicle, which was seen westbound on Arrow Highway, Mackenzie said. Suspect descriptions were not available. VINCENT - A mentally disturbed man is hiding in the Little Dalton Wash after allegedly pointing a weapon at people from a residential roof top. Deputies have a search in progress near Arrow Highway and Lark Ellen Avenue. The suspect may be known to deputies as a mentally disturbed person who allegedly has a history of possessing a fake gun, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. Deputies responded to Arrow Highway and Vincent Avenue around 8:30 p.m. to a call of a man on a roof who allegedly pointed a weapon at someone. The man jumped off the roof and took refuge in the wash. During the setup of a perimeter search, deputies located empty shotgun shells. It is unknown if the shells were trash collected by someone or were fired.
Deputies located the suspect in the wash and identified him as the man they have had frequent contact with. He could be heard screaming over the deputy’s radio before he disappeared into a tunnel. Deputies are determining what property was stolen so it can be returned to the victim. The burglary was reported in the 17000 block of East Orkney Street. One suspect was found as far away as Azusa Avenue and Gladstone Street where he was located running in an apartment complex. VINCENT - One juvenile is in handcuffs, two more are outstanding after deputies responded to a burglary in progress at a home Tuesday. Deputies have a containment search in progress around the 17000 block of Orkney Street in the unincorporated community near Azusa. The suspects fled as deputies were arriving, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic.
The two outstanding suspects are 15 to 17 years old, both are wearing dark hoodies and jeans. One was seen wearing a hat. The robbery occurred just before 11 p.m. at the 7-Eleven, 5575 N. Azusa Ave., March 2. Both suspects wore black masks. One of them was armed with a black handgun, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. Both suspects were last seen fleeing on foot south on Azusa Avenue from the 7-Eleven and out of view. The suspects were around 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighed 200 pounds and wore dark shirts and dark pants. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor VINCENT - An armed man robbed two 7-Eleven convenience stores of cash in a one-hour period Wednesday night and Thursday morning. The suspect entered a 7-Eleven, 17020 Cypress St., around 11:45p.m. Wednesday and stole around $150 with the use of a black pistol grip shotgun, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. As deputies searched the area, Covina Police officers detained a man in a vehicle because he fit the suspect description. As the man was being detained, the San Dimas Station received a robbery alarm call at another 7-Eleven.
The same suspect in the first robbery struck the 7-Eleven at 15942 San Bernardino Rd. around 12:40 a.m. The suspect stole $200 and fled southbound on Irwindale Avenue on foot. The suspect is a Hispanic man, around 22 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 170 to 180 pounds. He wore a black bandana across his face, a grey jacket and black pants. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor VINCENT - Deputies are investigating an assault with a deadly weapon after a resident said a teenage suspect flashed a handgun at him Thursday afternoon. The incident was reported to deputies around 1:20 p.m. in the 16700 block of East Masline Street in Vincent, an unincorporated community near Covina February 7, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. Both suspects were last seen fleeing east on Masline Street to Lark Ellen Avenue.
One suspect is 16 to 18 years old with black hair and brown eyes. He weighs 180 pounds and wore a grey long-sleeve shirt and grey jeans. A second suspect, only described as teenaged, wore a grey long-sleeved shirt, tan cargo shorts and a blue beanie, deputies said. The men approached 7-Eleven, 15942 W. San Bernardino Rd., around 2:18 a.m. One man was armed with a semi-automatic silver and black handgun, the other with a small silver handgun in Vincent, the unincorporated area of Covina. $200 to $300 was taken from their victim, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station crime broadcast. One suspect is a Hispanic man, 20 to 25 years old, 5-foot-8 to 5 feet 10 inches tall, 180 to 200 pounds. He wore a black sweatshirt and black pants. The second suspect is a Hispanic man, 20 to 25 years old, 5-foot-6 to 5 feet 8 inches tall, 160 to 200 pounds. He wore a black Mario Kart sweatshirt and grey pants. The two suspects fled westbound on San Bernardino Road. The work van was taken on Badillo Street in the unincorporated area of Covina around 5:45 p.m. The work van and suspect were located in the 4000 block of Frijo Avenue, according to Sgt. Mark Skaggs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. According to a Sheriff’s crime broadcast, a man and woman took the work van at knifepoint on Badillo Street. The outstanding suspect is described as a Hispanic man, 20 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall. He wore a white shirt. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor VINCENT - Four people were detained Thursday morning after a gang warrant service turned violent when at least one suspect opened fire on police officers.
The Pomona Police SWAT team assisted Azusa officers with the warrant service at 4 a.m. in the 5500 block of South Lark Ellen Avenue and Gladstone Street in the unincorporated community of Vincent when an unknown number of suspects opened fire from inside the home, Pomona Police said. Pomona SWAT members returned fire from outside the home, but no one was injured in the exchange of bullets. “Within minutes of the shooting, officers were able to make contact with the residents who complied with orders to exit the residence to be detained,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is handling the officer-involved shooting investigation. Eight simultaneous gang search warrants were served at the home and several other locations, resulting in multiple arrests, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. A search of the home and nearby residences yielded no injuries either. Azusa has seen a spike in shootings and gang activity, which took the lives of a 21-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy. In May, a man received a non-life-threatening injury when he was shot in the leg in the same area where Thursday’s officer-involved shooting occurred. In late March, a man and woman were injured by gunfire after being fired upon along Highway 39 in the Azusa Canyons. The couple drove down from the mountains and called for aid. It is unclear specifically what recent shooting is related to the warrant service Thursday. The shooting took place in the 5500 block of North Lark Ellen Avenue around 9:35 p.m. in Vincent, an unincorporated are near Azusa, according to Lt. Elisabeth Sachs of the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station. The victim, a male Hispanic, called 9-1-1 and told dispatchers he was shot in the left leg by suspects unknown to him, Sachs said. It was not immediately known if the victim was on the street or in a home when he was shot, Sachs said. The suspects, described as two male Hispanics, fled northbound in a white Toyota Camry towards Gladstone Street, Sachs said. A bullet was fired through a window in a second-story apartment unit nearby. Deputies checked for additional victims, but no other victims were found, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. The Camry had no license plates. |
