The shooting occurred around 9:18 p.m. in the 700 block of North California Avenue. A suspect is a passing Chevy four-door sedan opened fire at least six shots at the home, but caused damage to a vehicle parked in the driveway, according to Lt. Hugo Reynaga of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. No one was injured in the shooting. Reynaga wasn’t sure at the time of the interview if the shooting was gang related. The shooting occurred just four minutes after a weapon-brandishing in La Habra Heights. The armed suspect was found and arrested in Hacienda Heights. A Sheriff’s crime broadcast revealed as many as three accomplices inside the four-door sedan. The sedan fled towards Allen J. Martin Park. The suspect, identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner as 21-year-old Edward Matos, barricaded himself on a roof in the 500 block of Whiteford Avenue after running from deputies. The suspect was initially armed with a handgun, which was recovered after he ran, according to Captain Tim Murakami of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station in a social media post. Matos also had a no-bail warrant, Murakami said. Matos was sought after deputies received a 9-1-1 call of a disturbance in the 500 block of Jellick Avenue around 2:44 p.m. Matos went to a home there to apparently retrieve personal property and argued with his girlfriend. The girlfriend called deputies, according to Sgt. Ernie Barbosa of the Industry Sheriff’s Station. Deputies secured the area around the home where Matos was perched on top of and summoned a K9 unit to assist. Matos reportedly appeared to be very agitated and appeared to be under the influence, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. Matos fell while attempting to flee to a neighboring roof. He began foaming at the mouth when he was being taken into custody. Matos died at an area hospital mere hours later, Barbosa said. The shooting took place just before 1:30 a.m. in the area of North Hacienda Boulevard and Klamath Street, according to Sgt. Gutierrez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Deputies learned of the gunshot victim when an area hospital called the Industry Sheriff’s Station, Gutierrez said. The victim, who is cooperating with the investigation, claimed to hear gunfire in the distance. He was then struck by a bullet. The victim was driven to an area hospital by friends, Gutierrez said. The victim was speaking to deputies who arrived after being told of a shooting in the area. The victim is being treated at the scene by Los Angeles County Firefighters who will transport him to an area hospital. The shooting took place either inside our near the QQ Bargain Dollar Mart, 401 S. Azusa Ave. A male suspect opened fire on the victim. The suspect fled with two female accomplices in a black, older-model car with collision damage to the passenger side. The gunman is a Hispanic man between 20 to 30 years old. The two female accomplices, the driver and rear passenger, are Hispanic and between 20 to 25 years old. The carjacking occurred around 6:50 p.m. at West Francisquito Avenue and North Hacienda Boulevard May 8. The suspect took off in the Jeep westbound on Francisquito, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The 2000 Jeep Cherokee is blue in color. The suspect is a Hispanic man and 25 years old. He wore a blue baseball hat, white shirt and a blue backpack, according to the Sheriff’s broadcast. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LA PUENTE – The parents of a 16-month-old boy who was caught in an motorized gate and who nearly suffocated to death will meet their boy’s rescuers.
The child, Kevin Lopez, and his parents will meet and thank deputies Erik Nava and Jose Cruz for their actions March 12. The boy was initially saved by a neighbor who saw the boy trapped in the gate in La Puente Monday. The neighbor called 9-1-1 and said the boy was purple and was unsure if the child was dead. Deputies Nava and Cruz arrived and performed CPR for four minutes until paramedics arrived. Deputies helped clear and block roads, giving paramedics a clear path to a nearby hospital where the boy was treated, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said. “Fire paramedic personnel and the treating physician credited Deputy Nava and Deputy Cruz’s actions as instrumental in saving the life of the unresponsive patient,” the Sheriff’s Department said. Deputy Nava already saved the life of another child once. On November 16, 2015, Nava saved a 7-month-old child who also stopped breathing. A press conference is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Industry Sheriff’s Station, 150 N. The stabbing occurred inside Domino’s, 1073 N. Hacienda Blvd. Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry station responded to a reported assault with a deadly weapon call at 5:59 p.m. The suspect was detained last night, pending further investigation and it is not immediately known if the suspect was arrested. The knife allegedly used in the stabbing was recovered. A man was found suffering from at least one stab wound to the upper body. The man was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead, according to detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was involved in a physical altercation with the suspect, both whom were employees at the location. During the course of the physical altercation, the suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim,” homicide detectives said. The investigation is ongoing.
