One of two people inside a vehicle parked at Charter Oak Liquor, 20040 Arrow Hwy., shot at the man who received a wound to the mid torso area. He walked inside the liquor store where he collapsed, according to Lt. Elisabeth Sachs of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The shooting occurred around 8:13 p.m. August 30.
The victim walked up to a silver four-door Nissan Altima and spoke briefly to the occupants. For unspecified reasons, one of the two suspects shot at the man, Sachs told SGV CityWatch. The suspects, only described as a white male and white female, fled East in the Altima through the parking lot, Sachs told SGV CityWatch. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CHARTER OAK – Security cameras captured one of three suspects involved in an early-morning burglary July 5. A crowbar was used to pry into the business in the 20600 block of Arrow Highway around 5:30 a.m. Two of the three suspects entered the business and took a file cabinet containing currency and checks, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The loss to the business was more than $2,000. The cabinet was placed into a white four-door Honda driven by a female suspect. All three suspects escaped in the Honda.
The suspect caught on camera is described as a Hispanic man in his 20s. He wore a black hat, black jacket, blue jean pants and grey shoes. The second suspect is a Hispanic man in his 20s. He wore a multi-color beanie, olive green jacket and tan pants. The female driver is a Hispanic woman in her 20s. She wore a white t-shirt and black shorts. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CHARTER OAK - A man in his 20s was subdued by deputies Friday afternoon after causing himself numerous lacerations while breaking windows at a residence, a Sheriff’s lieutenant said.
The incident occurred around 5 p.m. in the 5000 block of North Willow Avenue near East Nubia Street, June 5. Originally responding to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon occurring, deputies learned after arriving on scene that the suspect was vandalizing a home by breaking out windows, said Lt. Melikidse of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. The suspect lived at the home where the vandalism occurred, according to Lt. Ed Mackenzie of the Sheriff’s San Dimas Station. “He was having some kind of medical episode. We’re not exactly sure what,” Mackenzie told SGV CityWatch. Three deputies were injured while detaining the suspect. One deputy received an abrasion to one of his knuckles, another deputy received a calf injury — both of those deputies declined medical treatment. Another deputy was checked out at a hospital, Mackenzie told SGV CityWatch. The suspect received severe lacerations during the vandalism, Melikidse told SGV CityWatch. The suspect was transported by firefighters to an area trauma center for treatment, according to Dispatch Supervisor Martin Rangel of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The suspect remains hospitalized as of Saturday morning. It is unclear if the suspect will be given a mental evaluation. Charges are still pending, McKenzie told SGV CityWatch. “Once he is discharged, we will probably be taking him into custody,” Mackenzie said. Arrow Hwy., sometime after 9:30 p.m. July 18. The suspect sprayed mace at the victim and took off with about $1,000, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s San Dimas Station.
The suspect, only described as a Hispanic man, 30 to 35 years old clad in a black shirt, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 250 pounds, fled south on Sunflower Avenue in a vehicle described as an orange four-door Toyota Corolla. The shooting unfolded at the Club Pacifica Apartments, 21042 E. Arrow Hwy., around 3:10 p.m. July 17. Deputies responding to an assault with a deadly weapon call found one man with gunshot wounds to the upper torso. He was hospitalized and later died, deputies said. Deputies later learned that a second gunshot victim was hospitalized.
“He suffered from several gunshot wounds to the upper torso and was in unknown condition,” deputies said in a written statement. It is unclear if a gunman is outstanding, or may be one of the men or both. No motive is known, or is not being disclosed. The shooting unfolded at Club Pacifica Apartments, 21042 E. Arrow Hwy., around 3:10 p.m. July 17. The victim was transported to an area hospital and pronounced dead, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. It is unclear if the victim was shot in an apartment unit, or outside. Deputies have a large area of a courtyard taped off. No other Information is available. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CHARTER OAK - Firefighters knocked down a bedroom fire inside an apartment complex early Saturday morning. Three people were displaced in the fire, which was reported just before 2 a.m. at Covina Manor, 20420 E. Arrow Hwy., July 13. Firefighters were able to keep the fire to just the bedroom, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
No one was injured. The fire was knocked down in a little more than 20 minutes. The cause is under investigation.

CHARTER OAK - No one was injured after a vehicle burst into flames at a medical clinic Thursday.
What was described as a portable dialysis truck ignited at 21304 E. Arrow Hwy. May 16. Firefighters were called at 12:09 p.m. and arrived seven minutes later to extinguish the flames, according to a representative with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
An ambulance was originally called, but was cancelled en route by firefighters. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor CHARTER OAK - The Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau is being called to a home after a mentally disturbed woman has apparently armed herself with a shotgun. The situation is unfolding on North Glen Arden Drive in Charter Oak, north on East Covina Boulevard. The woman claimed to be armed with a shotgun and deputies reported hearing her rack the shotgun, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. The woman is apparently mentally disturbed, claiming people were poisoning her and her cats. She is screaming at someone on the phone, deputies said.
Los Angeles County firefighters are on standby. No further information is available.

CHARTER OAK - A hydrant was sheared and two people were injured in a crash on eastbound Arrow Highway Monday.
The collision occurred at 5 p.m. at eastbound Arrow Highway west of Banna Avenue in the unincorporated community of Charter Oak. Firefighters arrived six minutes later to treat those injured, according to Captain Ron Haralson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The crash between a black PT Cruiser and a white sedan sent both vehicles onto the southern sidewalk where a hydrant was then sheared.
It was initially reported that four occupants were injured and that children were inside the vehicles when they crashed, but Haralson did not have definitive information on the number, or ages of the patients. At least two patients were transported to Foothill Presbyterian Hospital, according to firefighter radio traffic. Firefighters shut off the sheared hydrant just before 6 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. |
