The suspect, armed with a metal object, forced his way into one home and the 300 block of Linwood Avenue around before 8 a.m. Fearing for his safety, the resident attempted to flee, but the suspect apparently would not allow him to leave, according to the Monrovia Police Department. The suspect said he was looking for his sister and then searched each bedroom and closet inside of the home. He fled without harming the resident, Monrovia police said. A second resident reported the same suspect was attempting to break into his home as well, but the resident scared off the intruder by pointing a handgun at him. “The homeowner pointed a handgun at the suspect and told him to get off his property. The suspect complied,” according to the Monrovia Police Department in a written statement. Police arrived and set up a containment. The suspect was located standing on the roof of a nearby home. He ran a short distance after jumping down from the roof, but officers were able to detain him and eventually took him into custody. The unidentified suspect approached two people eating outside at a restaurant near South Myrtle Avenue and West Olive Avenue around 10:17 p.m. one week ago. The man appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance when he threatened the diners by raising his fist and demanded money, according to the Monrovia Police Department. “The victims ran from the suspect and he chased after them. They made it to their vehicle and locked the doors as the suspect was punching the door window,” Monrovia Police said in a written statement. After the suspect fled the area north on Myrtle Avenue, responding officers searched, eventually found the suspect and took him into custody after the victims positively identified him. He was allegedly heavily intoxicated and was booked on suspicion of robbery, Monrovia Police said. Deon Armstrong-Williams, 25, from Duarte and Trayvon Dixon, 21, from Azusa were arrested January 28. The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office which filed murder charges against the suspects, according to the Monrovia Police Department. Antonio Zaza, 27, was gunned down inside of Al’s Liquor, 412 W. Duarte Rd., around 8:20 p.m. December 23. Zaza died of a gunshot wound to the torso at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Both Dixon and Williams are being held ahead of a scheduled appearance in Pasadena Superior Court February 8. Terry Alford was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators believe the shooting is gang-related. Monrovia officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of East Los Angeles Avenue around 5:03 p.m. January 29. “Monrovia officers administered first aid until the arrival of Monrovia Fire Department at which time the victim was pronounced dead at the scene,” according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. While homicide detectives state that there is no suspect or vehicle description, three possible suspects fled the area in a four-door Honda Civic, according to Monrovia Police radio traffic. The shooting occurred in the 100 block of East Los Angeles Avenue. One person was fatally shot. He died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The shooting occurred around 5 p.m. January 29. Three possible suspects fled the area in a four-door Honda Civic, according to Monrovia Police radio traffic. Assisting Monrovia Police with a containment are the Arcadia and Sierra Madre police departments. Officers from the Monrovia Police Department arrived to the scene in the 400 block of West Duarte Road after being called to a shots fired report at 8:19 p.m. The man was found suffering a gunshot wound to the upper torso, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The time of death was pronounced at 8:26 p.m., according to Monrovia Police radio traffic. Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau arrived to take over the investigation and canvassed the area for witnesses and evidence. Investigators have not revealed the type of business the man was shot at. Monrovia officers have been in contact with the business owner who was called to the scene. The victims were shot on the street as they neared a McDonald’s, 480 W. Huntington Dr., just before 10 p.m. December 5. The victims fled in a vehicle and wound up at a residence where police and paramedics converged to provide aid, according to Monrovia Police radio traffic. One victim may have been shot in an arm, the second victim may have been shot in the back, according to preliminary information. It is not clear how many crime scenes there may be. Arcadia officers assisting Monrovia Police found ballistics damage at one building, while more evidence was located in the 300 block of West Duarte Road. Irwindale officers and El Monte officers are also assisting Monrovia. The shooting took place at Recreation Park, 620 S. Shamrock Ave., around 7:20 p.m. November 6. The victim was taken to an area hospital to be treated, according to Monrovia Police Department Sgt. Kevin Oberon. The victim was wounded twice by gunfire. His injuries are considered not life-threatening, according to the Monrovia Police Department in a written statement. The attempted murder suspect remains at-large. A group of people had gathered at the park for some sort of an event. The focus of the gathering was not immediately clear, Oberon told SGV CityWatch. Evidence from the shooting was collected at the scene. A motive remains unclear, Monrovia Police said. The robbery unfolded around 8:53 p.m. at Trader Joe’s, 604 W. Huntington Dr. The suspect donned a mask and backpack when he entered the store. Once he took the cash, the suspect ran on foot and possible drove away in a black Dodge Charger, according to Sgt. William Burkhalter of the Monrovia Police Department.
No employees were harmed during the robbery, Burkhalter told SGV CityWatch. The suspect was described as a Black man in his 20s or 30s. He stood 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall and also wore a sweatshirt, Burkhalter told SGV CityWatch. |
