Officers used Naloxone on the 21-year-old man who was found down and unresponsive in the 1100 block of Indiana Avenue before 1 p.m. May 25. Officers found the man not breathing and with no apparent pulse, according to the South Pasadena Police Department. After administering the opioid-inhibiting nasal spray, officers began CPR until South Pasadena firefighters could continue care. “Upon departure to a local hospital, the victim was conscious and breathing on his own,” South Pasadena Police said.
This was the first deployment of Naloxone for South Pasadena Police, according Sgt. Tony Abdalla. The department received approval to implement Naloxone March 12, 2019 by the Los Angeles County Medical Emergency Services Agency. All South Pasadena officers received training in deploying Naloxone.
