Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SOUTH PASADENA – A 29-year-old L Line passenger was saved June 15 after he ingested a likely fatal dose of Fentanyl on the train, police said.
Officers responded to the South Pasadena Station, 905 Meridian Ave., at 11:52 a.m. Tuesday. The victim suffered a cardiac event from the Fentanyl. A Good Samaritan was found attempting CPR on the victim, according to the South Pasadena Police Department. Officers equipped with Nalaxone, known by brand name Narcan, administered the nasal dose and within seconds, the victim began to breathe on his own, according to the South Pasadena Police Department. By the time the victim arrived to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further treatment, the victim was responsive and talking with paramedics. Fentanyl, a Schedule II synthetic opioid, is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Overdose death rates from synthetic opioids, including fentanyl and fentanyl analogs, other than methadone have increased by 16 percent from 2018 to 2019. Deaths from synthetic opioids were nearly 12 times higher in 2019 than in 2013, according to the CDC. Jim Valencia of the South Pasadena Police Department. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
The victim, only described as a Black woman possibly in her 50s, has yet to be identified, pending notification of family, according to Investigator Nani Cholakians of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SOUTH PASADENA - No one was injured after the driver of a grey or blue Toyota four-door fled a crash with a Gold Line train January 7.
The crash occurred at the crossing near Monterey Road at Pasadena Avenue just after 6:30 p.m. The vehicle was west on Monterey Road when it either stopped under the descending railroad crossing arms, or partially went through the already down gate arms, according to Sgt. Matt Ronnie of the South Pasadena Police Department. The train sustained only a dent in the collision. “As the train passed through, so did the car. It left,” Ronnie said. There were apparently no witnesses to the crash. No other motorists witnessed the crash and no one on the train, except for the engineer, saw the collision, Ronnie said. By the time officers were called to the crash, there was already a 20-minute delay, Ronnie said. Metro officials went to the scene to determine if the train was safe to continue or if passengers needed to evacuate to another train, but it was able to continue through, according to the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority on Twitter. |
