Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor VALINDA - A man was fatally injured by an alleged drive-by shooter Monday night, a Sheriff’s lieutenant said. The shooting occurred in the area of Walnut Avenue and Doublegrove Street just after 9 p.m. November 11. “One male was shot ... and ultimately he succumbed from his injuries,” according to Lt. James Long of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The victim, only described as a 20-year-old male, was shot at or near his home, long said.
It is unclear if a description was obtained for the shooter. A dark-colored four-door sedan was seen speeding away from the shooting, Long said. Detectives with the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau are on scene investigating and although they state there is no known motive for the killing, Long said the shooting is likely gang related. The robbery occurred sometime before 8 p.m. when a male in a black hooded sweatshirt, black Dickies and a black ski mask brandished a black semi-automatic handgun at City Market, 15790 Maplegrove St. September 30, according to Sgt. Martinez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. No one was injured during the robbery, Martinez said.
Nothing else other than the cash was taken. The suspect fled from the store and was seen escaping on foot, Martinez said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor VALINDA - The passenger of a vehicle received a graze wound to the head in a vehicle-to-vehicle shooting Thursday morning, the Sheriff’s Department said. A second victim was hit in the ankle by gunfire while inside his home from a stray bullet from the same gunman in a Kia. The vehicle-to-vehicle shooting occurred on Sunset Avenue near Blackwood Street around 2:10 a.m. September 27. A suspect inside the kia targeted another driver at Blackwood and Sunset. The driver was uninjured, deputies said.
A man reportedly inside a home in the 14000 block of Sauder Street was hit in the ankle, deputies said. A description of the gunman was unavailable. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor VALINDA - Deputies arrested a man early Wednesday morning after he led then on a pursuit and took refuge in a home. The unidentified suspect hid in a home near Frandale Avenue and Pocono Street when the pursuit stopped at a dead end September 3. The suspect was wanted for taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, according to Lt. Garcia of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. Deputies began pursuing the unidentified driver near Hacienda Boulevard and Francisquito Avenue around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, Garcia said. The suspect ran through residential yards before taking refuge in a home. It is unclear if the suspect is a resident of the home he was arrested in, or if he may know the residents.
Deputies entered the home and arrested the suspect without further incident around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, Garcia said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor VALINDA - No arrests were made after deputies responded to a call of gunfire, but found no evidence of a shooting Thursday. Deputies detained a subject in a home in the 16600 block of Alwood Street February 28 after receiving a call of three gunshots heard. Deputies received the call around 9:45 a.m., according to Lt. Rick Rector of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The incident eventually turned out to be a neighbor dispute, Rector said.
Deputies surrounded the home. A helicopter assisted deputies as they tried to encourage the occupant out. The occupant seemed very agitated with deputies who spoke to him on the phone. The property owner helped to coax the occupant out to be detained by deputies, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. The incident ended about one hour later. The shooting was reported around 10:30 p.m. in the 16300 block of Amar Road. The suspect fled on foot and was last seen running eastbound through a rear alley towards Indian Summer Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s industry Station. A suspect description was not given to deputies. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor VALINDA - Deputies have detained a man after arriving en mass to a home Friday morning after a call of an armed suspect in a Valinda neighborhood.
Deputies took the suspect into custody at a home in the area of Dubesor Street and Mullender Avenue just after 10 a.m. A caller reported to deputies that the suspect was armed with a handgun, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The suspect spent much time in the rear yard of a home on Dubesor Street and spoke to residents inside, the residents were later determined to be his sisters and mother, according to Industry Station radio traffic. A police helicopter was overhead and the suspect was given verbal commands over a loudspeaker to surrender. Deputies had much trouble getting the suspect to comply after he walked out to the street and got down on his knees under his own volition. Initially, deputies were told that gunfire was heard, but it is unclear if any shots were fired. Deputies are searching the home on Dubesor Street where the suspect apparently lives to find the handgun and are searching the neighborhood for any other evidence. The victim was shot outside a home in the 1300 block of Glenshaw Drive around 7:30 p.m. Three men occupied a white, newer-model four-door Acura involved in the shooting, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station.
Deputies are focusing their investigation at one house where spent shell casings and a blood trail were found.

The shooting took place in the 16400 block of Doublegrove Street around 9:20 p.m. Three armed men in dark clothing used handguns to shoot at some unknown victim or home, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station crime broadcast. Deputies are searching the neighborhood, home, by home, finding bullet holes in walls and windows. The suspects entered two dark sedans and fled the area east on Doublegrove Street. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - Investigators have identified the suspect who killed himself, who killed his nephew and who wounded his sister in a gruesome murder suicide.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau identified 18-year-old Ezekiel Griego, the suspect’s nephew, and 60-year-old Jeanita Griego, the victim's sister. The gunman was identified as Thomas Stratton, 64. Ezekiel died after being taken to an area hospital for treatment. Jeanita is on life support. Stratton turned the gun on himself and died at the scene of the shooting, Homicide detectives said. All three lived together at the location. The triple shooting occurred in the 1800 block of Gretta Avenue around 7:24 p.m. September 10. An unidentified resident of the home fled the location after witnessing the suspect shoot his mother and brother, believing he would be shot next. Jeanita planned on evicting Stratton. His health was failing and required him to use an oxygen tank, according to Lt. John Corina of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. The apparent murder weapon was recovered at the scene, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said.
