Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MONROVIA - City officials have announced an evacuation warning for Monrovia.
As Duarte officials advised their residents, Monrovia officials are strongly encouraging residents to gather their essential belongings, pets and prepare for potential evacuations, should a Santa Ana wind event drive the fire south into the foothill neighborhoods. Monrovia city officials said that evacuations, once ordered, will occur in two phases, phase 1 involving all residents north of Hillcrest Boulevard and north of Greystone Avenue to evacuate. Phase 2 evacuations will involve all residents between Hillcrest Boulevard and Greystone Avenue, South to foothill Boulevard, according to Monrovia city officials. Affected residence will be alerted to the emergency alert system, as well as Monrovia police officers and supporting agencies. Monrovia’s community center will be open Tuesday, September 8 at 7 a.m. As an information and cooling center. “Residents should make evacuation plans now, including overnight accommodations. Evacuation sites for those displaced are being prepared,” Monrovia city officials said. “Those with large animals, horses and cattle, should begin to move those animals now. Do not wait until the Evacuation Order to begin moving them out of the area. Accommodations are being made for animals at the Pomona Fairgrounds and Santa Anita Racetrack (limited capacity),” Monrovia city officials said. |
