The California Highway Patrol was dispatched to Glendora Mountain Road at mile marker 6.50 around 12:50 a.m. June 8 to a crashed black Mazda Miata. A passerby in a black Honda Accord apparently called authorities to report the crash, according to Officer Moises Marroquin of the CHP Traffic Management Center. Marroquin did not immediately have an estimate on how many feet the vehicle traveled off Glendora Mountain Road. Traffic logs only indicated the vehicle was “far down” off the road. Authorities were waiting for enough daylight to retrieve the body, Marroquin told SGV CityWatch. A 21-year- old woman stuck inside of the vehicle was extracted, lifted into a Los Angeles County Fire helicopter and was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for treatment, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The crash was dispatched to first responders just after 11 a.m. Easter Sunday. The vehicle may be as many as 200 feet over the side of the road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION - The US Forest Service announced Glendora Mountain Road will be closed for the next five days due to a high fire danger risk. A red flag closure will shut down Glendora Mountain Road from Big Dalton Road to East Fork Road starting at 4 p.m. today and is expected to end 10 a.m. Monday, November 30. Also closed will be Glendora Ridge Road from Glendora Mountain Road to Mt. Baldy Road, according to the US Forest Service. Pedestrians and bicyclists will still have access. A fire weather watch will be in effect for much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties starting Thanksgiving afternoon through Friday evening, but may graduate into a red flag warning later Wednesday. Moderate to locally-strong Santa Ana Winds will develop Thursday night and through Friday morning. Winds are expected to peak Thursday night and Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service. Gusts are expected to reach between 40 and 65 miles per hour over much of Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Humidity is also expected to dip between 12 to 25 percent Thursday and as low as 6 to 15 percent for Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Santa Ana Winds are expected to dissipate into Saturday. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MOUNTAINS - A one-acre brush fire is burning a long Glendora Mountain Road near mile marker 9.3, firefighters said Sunday evening.
The fire is burning in what is described as a mixed fuels and is slowly creeping uphill. There are no structures threatened at this time, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. County firefighters will be working along with firefighters with the US Forest Service. Fog and a low cloud ceiling is making it difficult for helicopters to respond, firefighters said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION - The U.S. Forest Service announced that several locations in the San Gabriel Mountains will remain closed until red flag conditions cease. The Switzer Picnic area, Millard Campground, Chantry Flats, Glendora Mountain and Glendora Ridge Roads are the affected areas, according to the U.S. Forest Service. The National Weather Service stated that the Red Flag warning issued October 27 at 6 p.m. is slated to end at 6 p.m. Monday, October 28. The warning affects the San Gabriel Valley, Los Angeles coasts, Ventura County coasts and the Santa Monica Mountains due to gusty Santa Ana winds and low humidity.
Wind gusts of 50 to 60 miles per hour were scheduled overnight into Monday for Los Angeles County mountains. Peak winds between 40 to 50 miles per hour were forecast for other wind-prone areas, the NWS said. Meteorologists believe a stronger Santa Ana wind event may blow across Los Angeles and Ventura County mountains Tuesday night through and into Thursday. A fire weather watch was issued for this potentially stronger wind event, the NWS said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor UPDATE, 1:52 a.m.: No victims were found after a thorough search of the mountainside by a helicopter and the San Dimas Search and Rescue Team. MOUNTAINS - Firefighters are continuing to search for victims after a vehicle was found crashed about 200 feet over Glendora Mountain Road. Deputies and the California Highway Patrol were alerted to the crash from information through OnStar, which alerted authorities to a rollover crash with airbag deployment, according to CHP radio traffic. The crash is reported on Glendora Mountain Road south of Glendora Ridge Road. Firefighters, dispatched at 12:53 a.m. October 2 have yet to find a single victim of the crash. Two first responders are doing an initial sweep of the scene until a helicopter arrives to thoroughly search the mountainside. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor MOUNTAINS - A vehicle has crashed over the side of Glendora Mountain Road and has ignited about a one-quarter acre brush fire. The collision was reported just after 5 p.m. at Glendora Mountain Road west of Glendora Ridge Road July 15. The vehicle crashed 100 feet over the side and became fully engulfed, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The fire is moving uphill with a moderate rate of spread. The U.S. Forest Service has initiated a full brush response complete with aircraft. Tactical medics with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau are treating the driver for unspecified injuries. Glendora Mountain Road north of Big Dalton Road to East Fork Road and Glendora Ridge Road from Glendora Mountain to Mt. Baldy Road will close Wednesday, July 3 at 4 p.m. The roads are expected to reopen Friday, July 5 at 10 a.m., according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The above road closures will not affect pedestrian, bicycle or horse traffic. Chantry Flat Road will close Wednesday, July 3 at 8 p.m. and is expected to reopen the morning of July 5, Sierra Madre Police said. Monrovia Canyon Park, 1200 N. Canyon Blvd., will be closed July 3 through July 5, the City of Monrovia said. The collision occurred a little after 9:30 a.m. on Glendora Mountain Road near mile marker 6.39, north of Big Dalton Canyon Road. According to the California Highway Patrol The rider was flown to Pomona Valley Hospital Medial Center by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. The condition of the deer was not known. Julio Aleman, 43, died as the result of an intraoral gunshot wound. Aleman was identified by Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. First responders were dispatched to a call of a cardiac arrest victim at 8:12 a.m. along Glendora Mountain Road at Glendora Ridge Road. Firefighters arrived 14 minutes later and found the man dead on arrival, according to Marvin Lim, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. California Highway Patrol officers were told the man was dead inside a car on Glendora Mountain Road, according to CHP radio traffic. Public records from the coroner show Aleman suffered from a history of anxiety, depression and alcoholism. |
