Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - Authorities announced Friday the arrest of two suspects in a highly-publicized and violent robbery in Hacienda Heights.
Russell Hardy Jr. and Cameron DeShawne Perry, both 19 years old, were located through a multi-jurisdictional investigation. Russell was arrested August 16 and is being held without bail. Perry is being held in lieu of $400,000 bail, according to Los Angeles County booking records. Both men were officially charged each with two counts of second-degree robbery, two counts of first-degree automated teller machine robbery and one count of attempted second-degree robbery. Perry also is charged with two counts of elder or dependent adult abuse, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Hardy was named as the getaway driver of a blue vehicle, Perry as the suspect who violently took the woman’s purse during the August 14 robbery in Hacienda Heights, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Both suspects are believed to have operated as a criminal crew the last several months and targeted Asian victims in Hacienda Heights, Rowland Heights and City of Industry, committing similar robberies. A meeting between the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau-Burglary Robbery Task Force and the Orange County Violent Crimes ATF Task Force was held to investigate the robberies when they were notified of the highly-publicized robbery. Both suspects are believed to be involved in a robbery May 30 near 1457 Nogales St. in Rowland Heights where a purse containing $150,000 in jewelry was taken. June 9, a woman who withdrew money from a bank at 17801 Colima Rd. in Industry had her wallet stolen. June 14, a woman was in a parking lot at 1611 N. Azusa Ave. when someone approached from behind, stolen the purse and fled. July 2, a man exiting a bank at 18958 Daisetta St. in Rowland Heights fought back after being pistol-whipped, leaving the robber empty-handed, according to the DA’s office. in all but one of the robberies a blue vehicle was seen fleeing. Both suspects are scheduled for an appearance in the Pomona Courthouse Monday, August 21. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION - Two 500 kilovolt transmission lines in the Walnut area malfunctioned, causing 159,239 customers to lose power in the San Gabriel Valley early Sunday, a Southern California Edison spokesman said.
Some customers in Walnut, Covina, West Covina, La Puente, Hacienda Heights, Rowland Heights, El Monte, the Whittier Narows area, Irwindale and Baldwin Park were affected by the outage that began at 6:47 a.m., according to Reggie Kumar, Southern California Edison spokesman. Customers in Carson were affected as well. Power was fully restored with the help of generators at 7:36 a.m., Kumar told SGV CityWatch. “Those transmission lines actually feed all the way to Bakersfield, so it was a very large loss,” Kumar told SGV CityWatch. The transmission lines are located in the City of Walnut. The cause is under investigation and repair work continues, Kumar told SGV CityWatch. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION - A man who pleaded no contest after being charged with molesting three boys was sentenced to nearly 10 years in state prison recently. Carlton Murray Harris Jr. was charged with one count of a lewd act upon a child under 14 and two counts of lewd acts upon a child under age 14 to 15, according to Pamela Johnson, public information officer with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Harris was sentenced to nine years and four months in state prison. The victims were on Harris' team in the Puente Hills-Rowland Heights Little League.
Harris, 48, pleaded no contest to the charges in October. A no contest plea is the same as a guilty plea. He must also register for life as a sex offender. The acts occurred between 2014 and 2017 at Harris' home with victims ranging from 11 to 15 years old, Johnson said. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - Detectives seek more victims of a man accused of molesting three boys in the Puente Hills - Rowland Heights Little League. A boy came forward March 19 and accused Carlton Harris, 47, of molesting him over the course of a year. Harris was the vice president of the little league organization, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The boy and his family became close with Harris. “During visits to the suspect’s home, the victim states the suspect would sexually assault him,” according to the Los Angeles County. Two other boys came forward to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau detectives.
Harris was arrested March 30 and was formally charged April 2 by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office with one count of lewd acts on a child under 14 years old, one count of continuous sexual abuse of a minor and five counts of lewd acts on a child 14 or 15 years old. His bail is set at $530,000.00. Harris’ next court date is unknown at this time. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - Coroner investigators revealed the cause of death for a woman found dead in Rowland Heights March 23. Miaoxian Liu, 47, died from blunt force trauma. Her death was listed as suicide, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Firefighters and deputies responded to the 18900 block of Daisetta Street just before 8:30 a.m. Monday. The woman was declared dead at the scene. SGV CityWatch was sent a screenshot of the death scene, likely moments after Liu took her own life.
The photo, originally shared on a Facebook information page for Rowland Heights, showed Liu’s body near a staircase on the ground level of a shopping complex. A man likely sweeping the walkway stood over Liu’s body. Liu, who suffered from depression, was listed as a missing person March 21 and was sought by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Missing Person’s Detail. on March 22, deputies reported she was found. Frederick Lopez Jr., 27, was arrested at his home without incident March 6 during a search warrant. Lopez is accused of stealing merchandise, cash and employee cellphones totaling $135,000, the ATF said. The crimes occurred at:

The as-of-yet unidentified man is accused of the driver of a silver Pontiac that struck a woman as she was walking with her husband in the 1800 block of South Saleroso Drive in Rowland Heights around 7:05 p.m. The driver fled the scene, but security cameras captured images of the Pontiac, which were shared widely on social media. The 75-year-old victim was transported from the crash scene to Schabarum Park and taken to an area trauma center by Los Angeles County Firefighters. She died at the hospital. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES – A man robbed two Cathay banks in the San Gabriel Valley, hitting a Monterey Park bank as recently as Tuesday. The suspect, dubbed the "Last Minute Bandit" due to him arriving late in the day, also cased a third Cathay Bank Friday, March 23 in Rowland Heights, but the suspect ultimately left, according to Laura Eimiller of the FBI Los Angeles Field Office. The suspect, clad in a brown hat, sunglasses and a long-sleeve collared shirt or light jacket, issued a demand note for cash at Cathay Bank, 17851 Colima Road in Industry. The suspect entered the bank just before 4:40 p.m., according to Lt. Hugo Reynaga of the Industry Sheriff’s Station. The suspect fled with about $2,000, Reynaga said. The suspect would issue a demand note and claim to have a weapon on him. he would even make a motion to indicate he was armed, but no weapon was seen, Eimiller said.
