Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION - A 41-year-old convicted sex offender will spend the next 28 years to life in prison after being found guilty of kidnaping two women in Pasadena. Anthony Seth McDaniel was sentenced Monday. He was found Guilty October 17, 2018 of two felony counts of kidnapping to commit oral copulation, according to Ricardo Santiago of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. McDaniel convinced the two women to get in his truck April 30, 2016 after offering them a ride in Pasadena. It is believed he intended to take them to his Compton home, said Deputy District Attorney Fernanda Barreto.
To escape, one woman leapt from his moving truck while on a 210 freeway on ramp in Pasadena, Barreto said. The second woman caused a collision on the 110 freeway in Downton Los Angeles and escaped as well, Barreto said. McDaniel was wearing an ankle monitor during the kidnappings, having been convicted in 2008 for assault with intent to commit rape, Barreto said. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - A Santa Ana man was reportedly kidnapped last month in San Gabriel and the FBI is looking for him and his captors.
“Tony” Rouchen Liao, 28, was abducted by three men who fled with their victim in a dark-colored Toyota Sienna minivan July 16. The minivan was followed by two suspects in a Range Rover SUV. The captors demanded $2 million for Liao’s exchange, according to the FBI Los Angeles Field Office. The kidnapping occurred around 7:30 p.m. at San Gabriel Square, 140 W. Valley Blvd., potentially being coaxed to the area on the premise of conducted a business deal, the FBI said. Liao, a Santa Ana resident and Chinese national, works at a Costa Mesa luxury car dealership. FBI agents believe Liao is unharmed and may know his general location. One of the three suspects was seen by witnesses to the kidnapping and was referred to as “David,” the FBI said. An attorney for the Liao family has offered a $150,000 reward for information leading to Liao’s safe return, on top of a $25,000 reward offered by the FBI. The relationship between Liao and his captors is unknown. Liao is 5 feet 6 inches tall, has black hair, and weighs 130 pounds. Suspect “David” is Chinese, 35 to 40 years old, is 6 feet tall and speaks Mandarin. Anyone with information on Liao’s whereabouts is urged to call the FBI Los Angeles Field Office at 310-477-6565. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - A South Gate woman who allegedly took her children during a supervised visitation and led authorities on a pursuit before crashing enter a not guilty plea in court last month.
Misty Dennis, 27, pleaded not guilty to two counts each of kidnapping, child detention with right to custody, child abuse and one count each of fleeing a pursuing a peace officer and resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer, said Greg Risling of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Dennis was seeing her children at the Department of Children and Family Services in Ladera Heights March 27. Dennis allegedly took off with the children, whom she does not have custody of, when a worker’s back was turned and drove off. Authorities were able to “ping” the woman’s cell phone and pinpointed her location to Whittier. Authorities located Dennis and her children, but she drove off and led authorities on a pursuit, sometimes reaching speeds of 90 miles per hour. The pursuit, which briefly spanned the northbound 605 freeway, wound its way on surface streets into Bassett where Dennis collided with a Foothill Transit bus. Dennis fled the crashed car, leaving her children behind. Dennis is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing set for May 14. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor REGION – La Habra Police are investigating an incident February 9 in which a man tried to lure a girl twice, police said.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m. in the area of Idaho Street and Whittier Boulevard. The man drove up to the girl in a lifted dark grey Ford truck and tried to get her inside, but she refused. The suspect fled the area and returned about an hour later, this time in a faded Honda Civic and tried to lure her in again, La Habra Police said. The suspect is a Hispanic man, approximately 30 years old, has short black hair – similar to a buzz cut. He wore a grey/blue jacket and white tank top. He had visible tattoos on his right arm.
