SOUTH PASADENA - A dramatic scene unfolded Friday morning after two men attempted to rob a jewelry store at knifepoint.
The two suspects attempted to rob Vana Watch and Jewelry around 10:54 a.m. The suspects pretended to be interested in some of the front counter items when one of the suspects produced a knife and attempted to stab an employee, according to surveillance footage provided by the South Pasadena Police Department. One of the jewelry store employees produced a black handgun and scared off the two men as the intended stabbing victim tried to wrestle the knife away. The suspects fled the store, with at least three employees giving chase on foot. Both suspects then fled in a green Chevy Malibu. The incident was caught surveillance camera around 10:30 p.m. The suspect donned a “Scream” Halloween mask and placed the stickers, which read “It’s okay to be white,” according to the South Pasadena Police Department.
Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SOUTH PASADENA - Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a confrontation between a woman and South Pasadena Police that left the woman wounded from gunfire Thursday.
The confrontation occurred in the 1100 block of Fremont Avenue around 11:49 a.m. Police were dispatched to the location for a “welfare check” when, for undisclosed reasons, a confrontation with the woman ensued, according to South Pasadena Police in a written statement. The woman was struck by gunfire an unknown number of times. The woman’s condition has not been disclosed. Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau are investigating. Authorities have the road closed on Fremont between Monterey Road and Oxley. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SOUTH PASADENA - A man was taken into custody Saturday after allegedly attacking a woman in her home and brandishing a knife at her.
South Pasadena Police received a 9-1-1 call from a woman who left the line open and didn’t say a word to dispatchers. The only words she uttered were “don’t touché me” and “get away from me” at an unknown subject, South Pasadena Police said. Police traced the phone call, placed at 9 a.m., to the 1800 block of Oak Street. “As the first officer arrived on scene, he could also hear the female screaming. He looked through the window and saw a male holding and waving a knife toward a female who was visibly upset,” South Pasadena Police said. The officer ordered the suspect to drop the knife. Additional officers arrived and helped take the suspect into custody. The woman had visible injuries, South Pasadena Police said. Marquis Harmon, 29, an Oakland resident, was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence. Harmon is being held in lieu of $50,000 and is scheduled for an appearance in Alhambra Municipal Court June 27. Written by AARON CASTREJON | CityWatch Editor SOUTH PASADENA - A Lyft driver was unharmed after three men took off with his car early Sunday.
The three fled with the driver’s car in the 1800 block of North State Street some time after 1 a.m. Two of the three men were armed with handguns. One of the men pointed the gun at the driver and demanded his car and personal property, South Pasadena Police said. The Lyft driver picked up the three men in Los Angeles. The suspects had the driver stop at two different locations before ending the ride on State Street. “At this point, one of the suspects pointed a black handgun at the driver and told him they intended on taking his vehicle and other personal property,” South Pasadena Police said in a written statement. The driver then noticed one of the other suspects was armed with a silver revolver. The suspects fled west on State Street, South Pasadena Police said. The first suspect is a bald Hispanic man, about 20 to 25 years old with an unknown tattoo on the back of his head. A second suspect was only described as a Hispanic man. The third suspect was only described as a Hispanic man in his 30s. The victim's vehicle is a grey 2010 Honda Accord, with a California License plate of 6MGV946.
