SOUTH PASADENA - A suspect wanted after an attempted December 2018 robbery of a jewelry store was finally caught May 29, police said.
Marcus Harris, 19, was detained by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies during a traffic stop Wednesday. South Pasadena Police detectives were called and took Harris into custody. He was booked on suspicion of attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, according to the South Pasadena Police Department. Harris and another suspect, Omar Teriq Bradley, 22, are accused of attempting to rob Vana Watch and Jewelry, 1401 Mission St., on December 14, 2018. Bradley was identified within days of the failed robbery, found and arrested, South Pasadena Police said. Bradley and Harris pretended to be interested in some of the front counter items at the store when one of the suspects produced a knife, pointed it at the store owner and demanded all the watches, South Pasadena Police said.
The owner defended himself against the knife-wielding suspect, while fending off an attack from the other suspect, who was wearing metal knuckles.
One of the employees produced a black handgun and scared off the suspects who fled the store, with at least three employees giving chase on foot. Bradley was given a custody release February 21 and was incarcerated in Wasco State Prison in Kern County, according to Los Angeles County booking records. A specific reason was not listed. Anyone with additional information on the incident is urged to call South Pasadena Police detectives at 626-403-7280. Email Newsletter! | Advertise! | Donate! Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor SOUTH PASADENA - A suicidal man who already cut himself and reportedly overdosed on pills was disarmed of a knife by officers at an apartment complex Wednesday. The man was bleeding from his wrists and was holding a large kitchen knife to his throat when police found him after forcing their way into the unit in the 1600 block of Amberwood Drive around 2:54 p.m., South Pasadena Police said. The man was found in a rear bedroom, laying on a bed. Police responded after he told family members he consumed numerous pills and slit his wrists.
“Officers asked the subject several times to put down the knife and talk with them. The subject insisted on taking his life and told the officers he had taken approximately 90 pills,” South Pasadena Police said. The man was distracted after officers built a rapport, long enough for them to knock the knife away with a six-foot prying tool, South Pasadena Police said. Officers immediately began first aid until paramedics arrived to continue treatment and transported the man to Huntington Memorial Hospital. “The officers showed tremendous restraint in an incident that presented both tactical and safety dilemmas,” said Captain Brian Solinsky. “The officers saw an opportunity to knock the knife away, which prevented the suspect from taking his own life or hurting someone else. The officers used the utmost restraint while bringing the situation to a successful conclusion.” |
