Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor BALDWIN PARK - A pedestrian crossing Amar Road outside a marked crosswalk remains hospitalized Wednesday. A 56-year-old La Puente man was injured after being hit in westbound lanes of Amar Road west of Echelon Tuesday, May 28 just after 9 p.m. The area where the pedestrian crossed is inadequately lit and the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing, according to Sgt. Elizabeth Van Valkenburgh of the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Office. The latest update Van Valkenburgh had was from last night, that the pedestrian remains in critical condition due to multiple internal injuries.
The driver, a 20-year-old male, turned west onto Amar Road from northbound Echelon and hit the pedestrian a few hundred feet west of the intersection, Van Valkenburgh said. The collision was reported just after 9 p.m. near Amar Road and Echelon Avenue. The driver stopped at the scene, according to Lt. James Long of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station.
Long only described the pedestrian’s condition as very serious. The collision is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol Baldwin Park Office. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor VALINDA - No arrests were made after deputies responded to a call of gunfire, but found no evidence of a shooting Thursday. Deputies detained a subject in a home in the 16600 block of Alwood Street February 28 after receiving a call of three gunshots heard. Deputies received the call around 9:45 a.m., according to Lt. Rick Rector of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The incident eventually turned out to be a neighbor dispute, Rector said.
Deputies surrounded the home. A helicopter assisted deputies as they tried to encourage the occupant out. The occupant seemed very agitated with deputies who spoke to him on the phone. The property owner helped to coax the occupant out to be detained by deputies, according to Sheriff’s radio traffic. The incident ended about one hour later. The shooting was reported around 10:30 p.m. in the 16300 block of Amar Road. The suspect fled on foot and was last seen running eastbound through a rear alley towards Indian Summer Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s industry Station. A suspect description was not given to deputies. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor VALINDA - Deputies have detained a man after arriving en mass to a home Friday morning after a call of an armed suspect in a Valinda neighborhood.
Deputies took the suspect into custody at a home in the area of Dubesor Street and Mullender Avenue just after 10 a.m. A caller reported to deputies that the suspect was armed with a handgun, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station. The suspect spent much time in the rear yard of a home on Dubesor Street and spoke to residents inside, the residents were later determined to be his sisters and mother, according to Industry Station radio traffic. A police helicopter was overhead and the suspect was given verbal commands over a loudspeaker to surrender. Deputies had much trouble getting the suspect to comply after he walked out to the street and got down on his knees under his own volition. Initially, deputies were told that gunfire was heard, but it is unclear if any shots were fired. Deputies are searching the home on Dubesor Street where the suspect apparently lives to find the handgun and are searching the neighborhood for any other evidence.

VALINDA - One person suffered unknown injuries after a fire destroyed a garage Friday morning.
The fire was reported at 8:55 a.m. at 16119 Francisquito Avenue. Firefighters arrived six minutes later to battle the flames, according to a representative with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The one-acre property houses a horse stable, but no animals were injured. It is unclear if the person injured in the fire is a civilian, deputy or firefighter. The extent of injuries is unknown. The patient was transported just before 10 a.m. Several fire investigators have been called to determine the fire’s source.

Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor VALINDA - A gunshot victim was dropped off at a nearby hospital in unknown condition Tuesday night. The victim was shot outside a home in the 1300 block of Glenshaw Drive around 7:30 p.m. Three men occupied a white, newer-model four-door Acura involved in the shooting, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station.
Deputies are focusing their investigation at one house where spent shell casings and a blood trail were found.

The shooting took place in the 16400 block of Doublegrove Street around 9:20 p.m. Three armed men in dark clothing used handguns to shoot at some unknown victim or home, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Industry Station crime broadcast. Deputies are searching the neighborhood, home, by home, finding bullet holes in walls and windows. The suspects entered two dark sedans and fled the area east on Doublegrove Street. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau identified 18-year-old Ezekiel Griego, the suspect’s nephew, and 60-year-old Jeanita Griego, the victim's sister. The gunman was identified as Thomas Stratton, 64. Ezekiel died after being taken to an area hospital for treatment. Jeanita is on life support. Stratton turned the gun on himself and died at the scene of the shooting, Homicide detectives said. All three lived together at the location. The triple shooting occurred in the 1800 block of Gretta Avenue around 7:24 p.m. September 10. An unidentified resident of the home fled the location after witnessing the suspect shoot his mother and brother, believing he would be shot next. Jeanita planned on evicting Stratton. His health was failing and required him to use an oxygen tank, according to Lt. John Corina of the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau. The apparent murder weapon was recovered at the scene, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. An unidentified resident of the home fled the location after witnessing the suspect shoot his mother and brother, believing he would be shot next. The suspect is the uncle of the 18-year-old and brother to the 60-year-old woman killed, according to Lt. John Corina of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau. Deputies arrived on scene with paramedics. The 18-year-old son and his 60-year-old mother were hospitalized. The son was declared dead at the hospital, the mother was listed in critical condition, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The 64-year-old gunman was dead at the scene. The gunman was living with his sister and nephews, but the sister planned on evicting the gunman. His health was failing and required him to use an oxygen tank, Corina said. The apparent murder weapon was recovered at the scene, the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said.
