Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - The latest storm to buzz by the Southland blanketed some lower-elevation areas with graupel, hail with Mother Nature blessing other areas with a blanket of snow. Mother Nature made an exception. The La Verne Police Department shared a few pics of snow covered foothills in the city this morning. In the Mt. Baldy area, 12 inches of the powdery stuff fell at 4200 feet above sea level. Several hours of rain, just under 6 and a half inches overnight was recorded, according to the Mt. Baldy Fire Department. Glendora on Friday got a dusting with some graupel and hail, as well as the hills around the Hollywood sign, Culver City. Santa Carita saw some snow, according to the National Weather Service. Mt. Baldy Road is closed, except for residents. The Antelope Valley Freeway remains closed due to heavy snow. Scattered showers and thunderstorms continue to move across the area with less than a half inch of rain per hour observed. Small hail and graupel are still being reported and snow levels will be at 1500 to 2000-foot level, according to the National Weather Service. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - Two men were taken into custody after allegedly fleeing Covina police into La Verne, where their vehicle crashed and caught fire near a business February 13.
A Covina officer attempted to stop the driver of a black Audi around 12:30 a.m. in the 1300 block of North Grand Avenue. The driver refused to stop and led officers on a chase along Cienega Avenue east to northbound Glendora Avenue and then east along Arrow Highway all the way into La Verne, according to Lt. Zavala of the Covina police Department. The driver crashed into a computer business at 2100 Arrow Highway where he and his two passengers fled as the Audi caught fire. Officers were able to catch only two of the suspects, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. Officers discovered and seized M30 pills: OxyContin laced with Fentanyl, Zavala told SGV CityWatch. Gabriel Morales, a 20-year-old Huntington Park man, and Adrian Paredes, a resident of Maywood, were arrested. Morales is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail. Paredes was held for detention only and released February 14, County booking records show. Morales appeared in court February 15 and pleaded not guilty to one count of reckless evading a peace officer and to one count of hit and run causing property damage. |
