An officer attempted to stop a suspicious driver in the area of Baseline Road and Esperanza Driver. The driver fled to the 210 freeway and reached speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, forcing the officer to cancel the chase, according to the La Verne Police Department. The suspect was last seen exiting at San Dimas Avenue where a backpack was found and recovered, according to the La Verne Police Department. “Officers retrieved the property which turned out to be property stolen during a home burglary in Corona just prior to their visit to La Verne. The property was returned to the victim, who advised a firearm was also stolen,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. Officers returned to where the backpack was found and located the loaded gun. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE – Detectives seek the public’s help in identifying two suspects after a 76-year-old woman’s wallet was taken from her in La Verne.
Detectives described the crime as a distraction burglary: the woman reportedly took the wallet while the man distracted her inside Vons, 1600 Foothill Blvd., October 1 around 10:36 a.m., according to the La Verne Police Department. “The suspects entered and exited the store in under two minutes. The suspects used the victim’s stolen credit cards to make multiple purchases at Best Buy, Ulta, GameStop, and Kohls in the City of Glendora,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. The first suspect is a Latino woman who stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 350 pounds. She has black hair, brown eyes and is 30 to 40 years old. The second suspect is a white man who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 170 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes and is 20 to 25 years old. A man with a $2 million warrant for murder in San Bernardino County was arrested November 7 after La Verne Police caught him escaping a Vons supermarket with a basket loaded with 20 Tide laundry detergent bottles. The theft occurred at Vons, 1600 Foothill Blvd. around 11:30 p.m. The suspect was being followed out by the store manager when Cpl. McKinley pulled up during a patrol of the area, according to the La Verne Police Department. The store manager did not desire prosecution, according to La Verne Police Community Service Officer Holly Savage. “Corporal McKinley made contact with the individual, who was found to have a $2 million warrant for murder out of San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office. He was held until SBSO detectives arrived to take him into custody," according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. The suspect's name has not been released. |
