Two other people from the home were hospitalized for smoke inhalation, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. A fire fighter was also reportedly injured. First responders were sent to the house in the 2000 block of Rancho Cañada Road around 3:56 a.m. Tuesday, January 30. Firefighters immediately reported smoke and fire showing from a window on the second story of the single-family home, according to fire department radio traffic. Deputies arrived first and pulled a woman through a window to rescue her. Another occupant, a man, was able to exit the house by himself, according to ABC7 news. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The package thefts were caught December 21, 2022, around 4:41 p.m. in the 5000 block of Princess Anne Road. Both suspects entered a 2001 to 2004 silver Nissan Frontier extended cab pickup from the passenger side. The truck was possibly occupied by a third suspect. The license plate on the truck is from another vehicle, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Crescenta Valley Station. The first suspect is described as a Latino female with a slim build, long brown hair, wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and red shoes. The second suspect is described as a white female with a medium build, long highlighted blonde hair, large fake eyelashes, wearing a black Nike sports bra, red leggings, black jacket with red on it and black shoes. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA CAÑADA FLINTRIDGE – Detectives seek a man who was caught on security camera attempting to rob a victim as the victim withdrew cash from an ATM August 4.
The crime was recorded at 5:41 p.m. in the 500 block of Foothill Boulevard. The suspect waited near the ATM and as the victim withdrew the funds, the suspect ran up behind the victim, grabbed the victim’s arm and attempted to take the cash, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “The victim screamed and resisted, causing the suspect to run away without obtaining any money,” according to the Sheriff’s Department in a written statement. The suspect is described as a white man 20 to 25 years old who stands 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall and weights 150 to 180 pounds. He wore a yellow baseball cap with the numbers “888” embroidered in purple, gold-framed aviator sunglasses, a black neck gaiter, a black Kenzo tiger print sweater, black sweat pants, black shoes and he carried a dark gray Gucci satchel. The suspect has tattoos on his left hand and fingers. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE – A Sig Alert was issued Tuesday morning and has been extended to 7:30 a.m. after a vehicle struck a pedestrian on the east 210 freeway west of Angeles Crest Highway.
The Sig Alert affects the No. 1, 2 and 3 lanes of the east 210 freeway, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Peter Nicholson. CHP officers were dispatched around 4:10 a.m. September 13. The driver of a gray Toyota Rav4 told dispatch he thought he struck a body in the roadway. It is not publicly clear if the pedestrian was up and walking prior to being struck by the Rav4, or if the pedestrian was down after being previously hit. A Sig Alert is affecting the 210 east to the southbound 2 trans road. It is not immediately clear how many vehicles may have been involved. California Highway Patrol traffic logs indicate possibly two other vehicles may have been involved. Aerial footage from KTLA 5 news showed the twisted, burned remnants of a vehicle on the far right lane. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA CAŃADA FLINTRIDGE – A 52-year-old man is recovering after he became pinned under the truck he was working on after it rolled backwards on top of him January 19. The man became pinned under the truck outside a convenience store in the 1000 block of Foothill Boulevard around 6:30 p.m. , according to Sgt. John Gilbert of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Crescenta Valley Station. After arriving, deputies reportedly witnessed the man inhale deeply. He then stopped breathing, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. “Believing the man would die if they didn’t act immediately, deputies immediately attempted to lift the front bumper of the vehicle off of the man. As the four deputies struggled, two civilian bystanders joined the deputies and they were all successfully able to lift the truck off of the male and pull him to safety,” according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
The man started breathing again and was transported to an area hospital. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA CAÑADA FLINTRIDGE - Deputies are looking for a man who assaulted a district employee while at an elementary school campus June 15.
The suspect trespasser was approached by a district employee at La Cañada Elementary School, 4540 Encinas Dr., around 10:50 a.m. The suspect punched the employee after being confronted about trespassing and fled the school, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Crescenta Valley Station. The campus remains closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The suspect drove away in a grey Lexus SUV, possibly a 2003-2008 Lexus RX, deputies said. The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s, stands 5 feet 11 inches tall, has a muscular build, brown hair and blue eyes. He wore a grey long-sleeved shirt, navy blue shorts and carried two duffle bags. Anyone with information on the suspect is urged to call Crescenta Valley Station Detective Burt at 818-236-4014. The fire was reported around 9:49 p.m. June 8 Near Inverness Drive and Saint Katherine Drive. The fire reached one-quarter of an acre as of 10:25 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The fire is 10 percent contained. County firefighters are cancelling requested assistance from Verdugo firefighters as well as all incoming aircraft. It is unclear if any structures are threatened. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA CAÑADA FLINTRIDGE - A man and woman were arrested this week after a GPS device help law enforcement track down the duo accused of burglarizing a home and taking the victims vehicle. Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Crescenta Valley Station aided by the Los Angeles County Auto Theft Task Force tracked down the man and woman to Woodland Hills where they were reportedly committing more crimes before being found and arrested, deputies said. A home was burglarized February 23 and the 800 block of Green Ridge Drive in La Cañada Flintridge. Keys to the victims vehicle and miscellaneous items were taken. Two days later, the victim discovered their vehicle was stolen from the home, deputies said.
Authorities found the stolen vehicle in Woodland Hills being driven by a woman from Glendale. Following her, was with authorities described as a chase vehicle being driven by a man from Los Angeles. The driver of the chase vehicle was pulled over and detained. The woman in the stolen vehicle stopped and fled on foot before finally being taken into custody, deputies said. The woman was found in possession of the stolen key, as well as illegal narcotics with the intent to sell, deputies said. The victim’s stolen vehicle was recovered. The man was booked at Crescenta Valley Station on suspicion of burglary, driving a vehicle without owner’s consent and possession of burglary tools. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor REGION – The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is seeking other potential victims of a woman arrested on suspicion of taking thousands from her elder victim. Sheila Paguirigan Solis, 42, was arrested January 14 after detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Elder Fraud Team began investigating claims of theft in November. The alleged crime occurred from April 2015 to August 2016, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Solis, who also goes by Sheila May Heribito and Sheila May Paguirigan, took as much as $100,000 from her elder victim whom she cared for in La Canada Flintridge, using cash withdrawals and bank checks issued from the victim’s account, the Sheriff’s Department said. “Solis has a previous conviction for financial elder abuse, but did not disclose this and other convictions at the time she began working as the victim’s caregiver. It is unknown if Solis has worked as a caregiver since being terminated by the victim’s family,” the Sheriff’s Department said in a written statement.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Solis November 25, 2019 and filed two felony counts including grand theft from an elder and burglary. A warrant was issued for her arrest. She was taken into custody outside her Glendale home January 14, the Sheriff’s Department said.
